What... nobody appreciate a little social commentary anymore?

Next thing you guys will be making fun of Santa. Then I'm digging deep into my vocabulary of multi-syllable words... look out!

For sure. Reminded me of that old joke that Tammy Faye used to have a cosmetics business, but it blew up in her face.

Dare I point out that "Santa" is an anagram of "Satan"?

Just an observation...

Yet you totally missed the obvious juvenile humour in the name "Woody". I'm disappointed.

Surely they could have picked a better name, though I don't think it was slang back when it was first erected...

Do you suppose Jimmy Fallon could even point out Halifax on a map?

Anyhow, back to the discussion. Would you say Mic Mac Mall is an urban or suburban shopping centre?

Au contraire - I simply (ahem) deemed it too juvenile to comment on

Oh, that's a term I definitely knew in the early 70s...what year was Woody, uh, put up? (see what I did there?)

No idea, though I do know he's no dummy. But I don't care - it was a great line anyway (assuming you're familiar with Squid Game).

Now don't you complain about a long drawn out discussion this time when you started it.

Then why... I mean why... did they choose that name?

Not into Squid Game, so it's over my head. I don't mind Fallon, but I think they should have let the Tonight Show die after Carson left. IMHO humour has been too dumbed down in the past decade or so, and Fallon fails to impress.

To set the record straight, I did not start that discussion. Mr. Goode baited me into it by including my screen name in his discussion point, leaving me no choice but to get involved...

In the end, I think you were right anyway, IIRC.

Lesson learned... maybe.

Mark, I've been asking myself that question for years. Clueless management is my best guess.

Fair enough. I'll just say that if you'd seen the first episode, you'd totally get the joke and, I think, find it hilarious.

Also, props to Dartguard for pointing out how totally baked Woody looks.

Perhaps he was named after Woody Harrelson.

For some reason I seem to recall that the tree didn't have such a prominent face, originally. To my memory it looked more like a tree that could talk rather than a face stuck on a tree, but I could be wrong. Maybe the face blended in better with the tree parts?

I dunno... Enough talk about the tree. You guys have gotta relax a little...

No, the original looked just as much like a face stuck on a tree as the re-creation does. The new one was actually intended to look friendlier. Somewhere in all the coverage (maybe in a tweet?) someone posted side-by-side before-after shots. I just don't have the desire or energy to go find it again...

Yeah, I'm good. No need to discuss further.

I, too, recall an earlier version of Woody without a human face. Instead he had two branches that moved like lips.

You and Mark are correct. In the mid-late seventies the Woody tree had a hidden face.

Thanks for confirming, guys. That's how I remember it as well, but thought I might be confusing it with something else!

I can't believe this conversation has degenerated into a discussion of how many woodies we've had...

So...any word on when the construction of that beautiful new woody-beamed art gallery begins? It will be a nice complement to Queen's Marque...
