Gotta love that green water. I would hope they plan getting rid of that.

I thought it was grass at first. I'm sure once all of the construction in the area has wrapped up, they'll clean up the water.

On one hand this biulding is amazing, but looking at the surrounding area, this project seems rediculius. With so much open empty land around, this project is a complete waste of money.

From this perspective it looks like there was no gladding affixed. Is it dirt, the sun? Well, it doesn´t look beautiful this way.

Burj Dubai has officially surpassed the KVLY television tower in North Dakota making it the tallest man-made structure on earth. . .

Excessiveness is what makes Dubai Dubai
This thing blows my mind. I can't believe how tall it is.
Its getting awfully thin at the top. I wonder if there are residences that high up. It would seem that the space needed for the elevator shafts and whatnot wouldn't leave much room for residences.

^That's true it is excessive, but what Rejinx fails to realize is that all that empty land in the surrounding area is being developed into high-density projects as well. . . so sure it seems rediculous now but in 10 years Dubai will have a skyline larger than New York and Chicago combined. . .

Insta-city. Like building your SimCity on cheetah speed. At this rate of growth you have to wonder if it can be sustained amidst soaring inflation through construction materials and property values.

It's all well and good to have a great skyline, however, are they doing it just for the sake of doing it....OR do they have the businesses and populace to support the massive square footage they're creating ?? It's a stupid analogy but if you've ever played SimCity, just placing buildings does not a city make. Building too much, too fast is a recipe for failure. I'm not saying they WILL fail, it just seems hard to believe the need for all these massive buildings is there RIGHT NOW. We may be looking at huge vacancy rates for years. JMO

Edit: Must have posted simultaneously to oldpainless, hence the duplicate SimCity reference.

Make no mistake. These open lands are yet to be filled up with a lot more projects. They'll probably wanted to build the Burj Dubai first because of it's height. Buildings like these draw a lot of attention and focusses lot's of eyes to their country.

I think that in a few years there won't be anymore of these big open spaces...

That's not a highway, that's the elevated track of the Dubai Metro.
