From the last view, I am actually pleased SkyCity never proceeded. I would much rather see a couple 20 storey buildings with some setbacks (many such examples can be found in Toronto) replace those surface lots.

To be fair, that camera's lens have been dirty for a while. It's been too cold for the lenses to be "naturally" cleaned by the heat the camera gives off.

Someone should go up there and give it a good washer fluid clean when it warms up later this week.

I noticed they were placing the large timbers that go along the columns surrounding Earls on the main floor yesterday.

I thought the timbers were just scrapped and gone with metal. Hopefully it looks good and not just tacked on.

I'm looking forward to seeing the wood. It should add some nice texture and warm up the colour tones a bit.

Thought the timber thing was already passé, they were doing that out west about a decade ago.

I never really liked the 'Beaver lumber' addition.

It's the one part of that complex that seems out of place.

The building looks fine as a glass monolith.

Totally agree although I'm not so sure about the monolith part.

But is that actually timber?

I like the wood, over time it will fade and as more of south main gets built up it will add some good contrast and maybe fit in with the brick buildings nearby.

I love big timbers (in construction). I always liked the way the restaurant broke up the square monotony of the tower.

Agreed. The pergola and curved corner give the building a human scale at street level and make it much more approachable. We don't need anymore monolith-meets-sidewalk towers IMO.

This is one step towards making south Mainstreet a less barren and windswept wasteland in the wintertime.

I can't wait until we get our first mass timber constructed tower, like have gone up in Vancouver, Chicago, and Norway.

With everyone talking about the timbers right now, it's actually aimed as perfectly as possible.

I think my favorite view will be from the Dugald overpass, as this is currently my favorite view of downtown.
