Its kind of awkwardly tall in the Manhattan skyline. Hopefully more 300+ meter buildings on park avenue will go up to around that height to make it not stand out like a sore thumb

I don't agree with this. The same can be said for the ESB (and now WTC1) which has dominated the skyline since the 1930s and stands apart from the other midtown towers.

I think Midtown East will need at least 3 or 4 buildings of roughly similar height as 432 Park. And, given the property values, I think it will happen.

Not to sound rude or anything, but have you been keeping up with all the super tall projects along 57th street? It's shaping up to be one hell of a skyscraper canyon.

This is true. Just including announced projects, this tower will not dominate Midtown.

There's at least one taller tower coming (225 W57), then a second tower about the same height (107 W57) and probably many more to come (Shvo Tower at 100 floors per NY Times, for example).

Yes I have. But this is the only one going up right now. This will stand alone way above the rest of the midtown skyline for a year or two before anything around its size joins it. I know by 2020 it will not look awkward, but in my opinion it looks too tall for the CURRENT skyline.

Trust me though, I am more then happy to see a building of this size (especially residential) go up in New York.

i worry the east and west views will seem unbalanced with so many towers right behind each other of the same height... but beauty otherwise...

[QUOTE=NYguy;6604468]^ Then perhaps they should have called it FOUR32, or 4THIRTY2, something gimmicky like ONE57, but I don't think that was it. The Park Avenue is really all you need.

Anyway, here are enough photos to get my 432 fix for the rest of the week, including some bonus Park Ave shots for skyscraper lovers...

I don't know if it's a viable address for that block, but wouldn't it have been kinda neat to have 444 as an address? Imagine the endless possibilities: 444, 3 4's, triple four, 4 forty 4, four hundred forty four, etc., etc., etc. Anyway, 432 sounds good still, because old habits are hard to break.
Also, I read early on in this project, that the name "432" developed from the height of the building? "432 meters". (Which is close in height, but not a cigar.)
NYguy, thanks for the wonderful tour!

I feel that the Central Park (website) needs updating to reflect the new towers (including this one) rising on W. 57th Street.

You are right, and that's the most coolest thing about this tower !

That is what makes 432 Park Avenue so special and a historical building. Without the mindblowing height to width ratio it would be just another semi tall structure that New York is already full of...

Yes, I agree. When I think of the classic New York skyline, I think of a mass of buildings with breathtakingly tall structures standing out from the crowd and piercing the sky. I have no worries about this awkwardly sticking out from the crowd, especially since it will soon be joined by others that will create the effect you see in these pics:

^^^

Even to this day, we still awe at seeing vintage photos of the skyline. Could you imagine the reactions of the immigrants who came from a village where maybe the tallest thing it a tree back in the day.

Agreed. There is a movie studio that opens its movies with a shot of these 3 towers from back in the day and every time I see it, I'm awestruck. Can't imagine what immigrants from Europe thought when they saw that.

These days these buildings, while still great structures, don't invoke the same emotion because they are now in a cluster of tall buildings. They don't stand out in the crowd.

It's all relative.

What you described is a canyon!

One57 and 432 Park both create that vintage view (for now) until the other planned towers rise, so when this tower reaches it's finished height, be sure to take plenty of photos because it's going to be as classic as the vintage Lower Manhattan skyline!
