Still, it´s already quite small and imagine they put another 200m on top of this. The height more and more destroys the overall impression.

I think it's an impressive building overall, but I see what you're saying. To me it's a weak attempt at building the worlds tallest. The Al Burj, now that's impressive and will really embarrass the Burj Dubai.

^ lets let al burj even get a render of itself before it starts embarrassing anyone

For now, say what you will about burj, but it is making progress, its already the 2nd highest structure in the world right now (correct me if I'm wrong), and it really doesn't look bad at all. I've basically got no complaints with the building (considering maybe a few other buildings that have come out of dubai )

There might be a radio tower that's taller, but as far as free-standing it's the tallest in the world.

To put that in perspective, that's about the typical floorspace of a single floor for what in Chicago is called a six-flat (three floors, two apartments per floor, usually two lots wide). Which, in my opinion, is pretty damn small for any floor on a building calling itself a highrise. :-)

I did research a few months ago and realized how much smaller Burj was compared to all the other supertalls. I don't have time to make a list of comparison, but I'm sure Burj is smaller than that 10 tallest skyscrapers in the world.

March 27 2008.

The Burj Dubai is the tallest structure on Earth !!

Pics by AltinD at SSC.

Perhaps not quite as important as the triflin' over floorplate size here by some ...

As I posted yesterday - the level starting tier 18 that is going up as we speak is over 2600 sq. ft. - as big as a large house 630 m. up.

You can think what you want about that, but floorplates that are 500 sqft or less in a modern day skyscraper just don't make any sense. We all for the most part admire this building, but you need to be open to some opinions that may not be what you agree with. And the be honest, the small floorplate opinions are quite correct at that.

I am open to different opinions.

But the floorplates are 2600 sq. ft. right now.

Even at that, 2600 sqft floorplates are still not practical for a modern skyscraper.

Yea, a few footsteps and you've crossed the diameter of the top floors.
An elegent building, but reminds me of a whip it's so narrow at the top.

For whips like this, perhaps there needs to be yet another definition for tallest building. Tallest buildings that have body all the way to the top, and tallest whips.

2600 sq. ft. is MORE than enough for the coolest bachelor pad ***EVER***

Imagine the views. Set the place up so you want walk laps around the floor (as in, the bedrooms would have doors so you could enter one, exit another, and just keep going in circles). It would be unreal.

Its actually alot bigger than it looks. try this. look at one of the top floors and try and see yourself standing on the edge and you will find out that its not that small.
