The Highland Park townhomes in Inman Park and 795 North Avenue townhomes, both along the Beltline, are the only two that I am familiar with that will be non-apartments.

Seven levels of deck parking and six levels of outpatient offices (13 floors total) on Howell Mill @75. Should be a significant and visible building, although not very urban or exciting. Groundbreaking in Spring supposedly.

I'm pretty sure Ponce City Market is condos, although there may be an apartment component.

AT&T eyeing Atlanta for sought-after research hub

According to a report in the AJC,AT&T is considering Atlanta for a high-tech innovation center that would bring dozens of sought-after research jobs to the metro area and create a powerful incubator that could generate more startups across the city.

AT&T Mobility chief executive Ralph de la Vega said the company was eyeing space near Georgia Tech for a location for a new Foundry, the company’s collaboration centers where engineers and executives dream up new technologies and then bring them to market quickly.

An economic development official with direct knowledge of the negotiations said recruiters have been working the deal for months and are hopeful of soon landing the project. The official said the center is expected to staff a few dozen full-time jobs, but will have a broader impact on the startup community.

Atlanta’s setting as the home of AT&T Mobility, the company’s wireless branch, could offer a strategic boost for the firm to bring a research facility here, said Roger Entner, a telecommunications analyst with Boston-based Recon Analytics. Combining the Foundry with Georgia Tech’s skilled graduates and state tax incentives could position Atlanta as a mobile telecom hotspot for startups, said Entner.

Ponce City Market is in a U shape. The center section will be retail and offices. Of the two other sides one will be apartments and the other condos.

I highly suggesting getting on one of the Ponce City Market tours when they pop up. There are fascinating and you get to see just how big the building really is and the bold things they are planning on putting in there.

An Atlantic Station (and a MARTA station) in Summerhill/Mechanicsville? Another sprawling parking lot to be developed into something BIG?

Coca-Cola eyes moving unit, jobs to Midtown

Speaking of Coca-Cola, the Atlanta Business Chronicle is reporting that Coke is considering the move of its Coca-Cola Refreshments business unit from suburban Atlanta to an intown office building closer to Coke’s nearly 1 million-square-foot headquarters campus on North Avenue.

Coke is seeking a highly visible tower and wants to put its iconic logo across the top of it, according to commercial real estate executives familiar with the early discussions.

The move would require about 250,000 sq ft and involve about 200 jobs.

Peachtree Street bridge to get enhancements

The state Transportation Board is poised to declare the Downtown Connector a gateway to the state, and to help fund a makeover to pretty up some of the high-profile bridges that pass over it.

The first two are the Peachtree Street bridges that pass over the Connector and back, in Downtown and Midtown.

The makeover, according to the Midtown Alliance, will include colored under-lighting for night time and the words “Peachtree Street” in lights, as well as sculptured fences and sidewalks on the surface level over the I-85/I-75 interchange.

The Department of Transportation’s board approved the expense on Thursday. DOT will put $1.7 million toward the $5 million project for two bridges. Three other bridges would follow later, said DOT board member Sam Wellborn. Kevin Green, president of the Midtown Alliance, said all the money is now in place and both projects will hopefully be completed in spring of 2014. The Atlanta Downtown Improvement District is also helping fund the project.

Thanks, but I'm still a little confused. Fully two years ago Coca-Cola announced that it would renovate the existing tower, Gensler was appointed architect, and we were led to believe that it would be dramatic, something like a re-skin.

Notwithstanding this pending expansion, was the reno put on hold ?

I thought at the time it was said the reno wouldn't be very noticeable from the outside, but would probably just be a lot of work on the campus areas and building interiors.

It was to have been a four or five year project commencing in 2011. simms seemed confident, as I recall, that it would be a fairly grandiose re-cladding.

From the ABC article:

Coke’s potential intown relocation comes as it eyes at least a $90 million modernization of its 1.8 million-square-foot campus, including 1 Coca Cola Plaza, the most visible tower, with the iconic Coca-Cola logo across the top.

The project is expected to be one of the largest upgrades of a corporate campus by any Atlanta company.

But, it remains in the planning stages.
