Kind of disappointing for such a prominent corner.
He didn't seem 100% certain and I'm sure the timeline is pretty far out so there's always the possibility that plans change.

Here it is in today's Inquirer story:

Quote:
A new retail structure planned on vacant land beside the building at the corner of Broad and Spring Garden Streets will accommodate the Wawa and a Bank of America Branch, according to New York-based financier Billy Procida, whose investment fund is helping to bankroll Blumenfeld's projects. A restaurant tenant is being sought to fill remaining space in the planned structure, Procida said.

Dranoff to build apartments on Camden's waterfront

Quote:
Carl Dranoff, the Philadelphia-based developer who transformed Camden's former RCA Victor factory into the city's first luxury apartment building, has plans to build an apartment complex on the waterfront.

The 156-unit building, which would sit next to the Campbell's Field baseball stadium, would be part of the massive mixed-use Liberty Property development that has been proposed for the area.

Dranoff declined to comment earlier this week on the proposal, saying he preferred to wait until after his presentation to the city's Planning Board Thursday night.

The board's agenda lists the project as having about 148,000 square feet of rental space, with about 5,000 square feet for ground floor retail, at the end of Cooper Street at Delaware Avenue. The plans include 192 parking spaces and about 30 units that would be set aside for affordable housing.

China Town Development

Does anyone know anything about this building? Two more floors and this will become a high-rise development.

Hard to get excited about a 9-story shoebox, but . . . .

Hard to imagine this will fare well in Civic Design Review . . . Cecil Baker's comments will be interesting to read.

This is a pretty huge development for the area though.

Go Inside the Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera House

Quote:
Today, it's now in the hands of Eric Blumenfeld, the same developer who is behind the ongoing $44 million restoration of the Divine Lorraine just three blocks away.

In three to six months, he'll reveal the new tenant for the theater's, well, sixth chance. On a recent tour of the property, all funding partner Billy Procida would say was that it will be one of the "nation's biggest concert promoters."

"This is going to be one of the coolest rock, theatrical venues in the country," Blumenfeld said.

Both the exterior and interior show the building's age. Standing on the wide stage looking out to the stadium seating, Blumenfeld said, "This is the part of the tour when people tell me, 'You're crazy.'"

While much of the interiors are preservable, a lot of it—namely the seating—has already been lost, he says. After they announce the tenant, Blumenfeld expects the theater to go through a year-long, $35 million renovation. His hope is that the re-opening of the theater will be the key to North Broad's revitalization.

Noticed a few days ago that there have been worked at Constitution Place (4th and Chestnut, the building with Budakan and Cosi) stripping all of the paint off the facade and removing some windows and replacing them with plywood. This building has looked truly terrible lately as the painted parts looked awful and their were so many mismatched windows.

Now it looks like it is getting a fresh finish as well as matching windows. If I remember correctly, Constitution Place was included in the sale of two other buildings a few ago that also included the Bourse and the KYW buildings nearby. Looks like new owners are sprucing the place up.

I'll just leave this here, see what the forums think of it... though I expect there's a lot of overlap between here and the UrbanPHL group.

I'm being displaced by 'approved housing'

Such garbage, that incredibly ugly cheapo student tenement housing going up on the fringes of UC. I can't believe it's legal to put up such schlock in Philly. It really is shockingly ugly and horribly designed. Hopefully most of it will be ripped down again over the next 10 years.

I lived in UC for ~3 years, can you post examples of what you're talking about? I can't think of what you're referring to off the top of my head and now I'm curious.
