I don't think we have to worry much about whether or not Mobile will once again be a cruise port; Carnival proved that it could, and from what it seems the ships didnt leave because of Mobile's nature.

As for the mayor...

I still maintain that Sam Jones was not an outspoken advocate for the City of Mobile. That being said, I think we will all recognize his important role in bringing Airbus to AL.

It really is difficult to understand the positive impact Sam Jones had on the city, and I do believe his presence was beneficial.

From the looks of it, it seems Sam Jones was a pivotal place-holder. The city should be happy that Jones and Mayor Elect Stimpson are working together to provide for such a smooth

Do you guys have any info on the Atlantis location on Dauphin street?I have noticed new lighting, paint and glass on the exterior.

I've heard it's going to be an Ollie's, from one of their employees. That would be huge for Dauphin St. if so.

Not a big fan of Ollie's. Its okay. I'm glad that La Pizzaria is reopening.

I think they're different enough from the Mediterranean Sandwich Company for it to work out. Ollie's is almost more a bar/ hooka bar/ social place than restaurant. They also have pizza, burgers, wings and pastas along with the Mediterranean food. The one in West Mobile is great, the one in Midtown not so much. I'm curious to see if they take the club atmosphere approach of the Midtown location too.

A popular Alabama music venue may be closing it's doors after receiving an eviction notice Saturday. The new owner of the building is allowing The Alabama Music Box to stay open until they find a new location to move to. The Alabama Music Box is a part of the Downtown Mobile entertainment district and is a favorite place for local acts to perform. "We're not going anywhere... We will be there through Mardi Gras at least," stated co-owner Dave Mathews through a press-release provided by Mod Mobilian. Their next scheduled act is Tuesday and will feature the punk band Black Flag

I wonder what the new owner is planning to do with that space. It seems it is solely a bar/restaurant space with its current floor plan.

Anybody see the new 5 unit condo redevelopment going on on Conti just east of Barton Academy? Looks interesting. There was a sign for the Architectural Review Board on the Conti Street side.

BBVA is moving it's branch headquarters from Airport Blvd to the newly renovated Van Antwerp in 2014.

I agree! Regarding the corporations downtown there are over 20,000 people who work downtown hopefully another 10k will be added in the next 5 years. I wish they would have kept a restaurant on the first floor.

I've heard that the owners of Ollie's are putting in a hookah lounge/club type thing in the old Atlantis but its not going to be called Ollie's. Also the owners of Brickyard and other bars and restaurants bought The Bar on St. Francis and are renovating it now. These people have owned bars downtown for at least 10 years so I have no doubt The Bar will be improved and ran correctly.

Looks like Panini Pete's will be moving from its current location on Conti and Conception to 104 Dauphin Street near the intersection Dauphin and Royal. Apparently, with their success, they will need a larger space.

Dauphin and Royal hmmm so it can't be the Van Antwerp so maybe it will be across the street from the Antwerp the building with the balcony? If so well that is a prime location for Mardi Gra.

Also the city Council will vote on a new proposed downtown code.From what I have read so far the new code will be great for downtown.
