AllNS reports that Staff and Council have put a $105 million stadium on the 10-year capital project "wish list". This wish list has no funding attached to it, and the Mayor is quoted as saying that if a stadium does happen, it will be largely private sector-led.

I think this is a great idea. It gives residents a chance to see if a stadium on the peninsula would work. If it works well, then maybe a more permanent stadium of 10 to 15 thousand could be built but with washroom facilities to handle 25,000, so they can put up additional temporary seats at times for large concerts, the Vanier Cup or even to host CFL games. I wonder if SMU would be interested in playing at the Wanderers; it is close to SMU and they might attract more non-SMU spectators.

I hope this goes ahead. I have long thought that the best place for a stadium is in the Peninsula, and especially the Wanderers grounds.

There's a group in Moncton (led by the NB Soccer Association) beginning to agitate for a Canadian premier League team in the Hub City as well, playing out of the Moncton Stadium.

Of course it's the same old problem:
- Halifax may have an ownership group, but no stadium
- Moncton has a stadium but no ownership group.

Moncton could get in on this as well, this league would probably have room for both a Halifax and Moncton team.

My issue with the Moncton track and field stadium is the seats are too far away from the soccer field action. Ruins the fan experience.

I went to a number of the FIFA games at the Moncton Stadium in both 2014 & 2015 and it wasn't so bad.

The fisheye lens in your photo above makes it seem even worse than it actually is.

Yes, I think it would be good to have both a Moncton and a Halifax team in this league. It would certainly make for a natural rivalry.........

If the CPL comes to fruition, I would like to see a St. John's franchise. They have the oldest soccer-specific stadium (King George V) in North America. It seats around 10k. There is also little competition for the local sports entertainment dollar.

You want a pro team - find some rich Chinese guy who wants to live in Halifax. I have a son coaching kids part time in China and he's making very good money.

Given the limited following that soccer has in this country, even 5k seats for a smaller city like Halifax might be optimistic. There aren't even many Canadians watching soccer on television. I wish those getting involved in the CPL luck, but I am not optimistic about their chances of breaking even.

Excellent! Hopefully this will get support from city Council and residents.

The images show how much space is available. There will be some opponents who will say that it will cause noise issues with the hospital and Public Gardens, but I would think that all the trees would block some of the noise (or is there a reason why this is not logical, I am not sure?). Also, I think that the speakers could be pointed away from the hospital and Public Gardens.

I would be elated to see this go ahead. The CH article points out all the parking spots within 500 meters. I love this location for a stadium. What a great way to showcase the city by having a stadium next to the Citadel and Public Gardens. This is possibly the most scenic location in the city.

There is really only on-street parking and the garages at Park Lane and the small one under the apartments next tot he Lord Nelson nearby as I presume the QEII lot would be limited to hospital users. The ones downtown are a tough walk to this spot.

The Scotia Square parking lot wouldn't be that bad of a walk. Think of the exercise

It looks like they had a good turnout, from the source given by q12; I wonder if there were any skyscraperpage members in attendance? Hopefully most were there to support it. (the people in attendance look so intense!)
