Picture of Arena Screen

Took a picture this morning but don't know how to post it on here. Can you not attach it as a file? It is a massive screen. Looked really clear actually. Interested to see how bright it is at night, hopefully it isn't blinding.

Very glad that it is being repaved as well. The trucks from the port had torn up the roads pretty bad. I wish they had their own dedicated on ramp somehow.

Upload on to your computer and then upload onto FLickr. Flickr is really easy to sign up for if you have a facebook or yahoo account already. Once you do that you should be able to find the webaddress for the photo by right clicking it. Then just post on here that address in the box that pops us when you click on that yellow square above! Hope this was helpful somewhat!

Is that the name then? Great. I was kinda hoping Benson would go for the Catholic angle and choose the Angels or the Apostles or the Soul or something (apologies to Jon Bon Jovi).

The W in the FQ is small though. I would hope they plan for another large W in the CBD.

Wondering what the retail planned at Bullard across the new Walmart will be...per the zoning docket posted by Tennis. That's where the old Circuit City and Toys R Us are located. Hoping for additional retail to move in with the announcement of Walmart. That will help keep tax dollars in the city.

True it is a transit grant, but I think the reporter was talking abut the 7mil the city was putting up to finish the project.

Claiborne development

If you turn onto Claiborne from Earhart (by the land for the coroner's office), there is a piece of property on Claiborne with pilings in the ground. Anyone know what this will be?

The city is working on taking care of the homeless and hopefully something in the line of Cafe' Reconcile can help some of them find jobs and make it back into the working world. Many of them came here looking for work and live in their cars; the ones without cars are the ones that gather under the overpass. I worked on a project called "The Wall" with a lot of volunteers from the NOLA area that fed many homeless every Sat. night at the foot of Elysian Fields at the levee wall. A lot of the people that we served were truly in need some had families with young children. Most were looking for work after Katrina. The Priest that cooked all day Saturday to feed the homeless on Sat. Nights passed away a couple of years ago and the city quickly put up a fence to block off that area. I met a lot of good people just trying to make it financially and feed their families, my whole perspective about who the homeless are has changed after working with "The Wall"... also I don't know if this is still in effect but the homeless have to beg for $7.00 to pay for only 1 night in the homeless shelter and $7.00 is an all day job when you have to beg and hope someone stops and gives you a dollar. I hope Mayor Landrieu's program is genuine and not just "a pie in the sky, get the homeless off the streets so our city doesn’t look bad for the Super bowl" and then cut the program after February 2013.

I think it definitly is, though. That's my problem with homelessness policy... city governments don't want to fix the problem, they just want to hide it behind closed doors.

This happened in NY, where Giuliani "cracked down" on homelessness and just forced the homeless to shift to the outer boroughs and the suburbs.

Yup....you're probably right, but maybe Landrieu has a bigger heart than that. We'll find out after the Super Bowl

Downtown News:
November 16th, 2012 3:36PMThe DDD, in partnership with the City of New Orleans, is starting limited repairs to Downtown sidewalks in preparation for the 2013 Super Bowl. The DDD will repair the brick sidewalks on St. Charles Avenue and Lafayette and Canal Streets. The DDD will also complete repairs around the vacant service lots on O'Keefe, South Rampart and Poydras Streets.

The State Bond Commission has approved $300,000 of funding for the Downtown Development District of New Orleans (DDD) for planning and construction of improvements to Girod Street to facilitate and complement the Domain Companies South Market District development project.

This project will allow the DDD to provide necessary public infrastructure improvements to facilitate the development of the new mixed-use retail and residential development project. The residential population in the Downtown area has doubled over the past ten years and is expected to increase at the same rate over the next ten years. This project is consistent with the DDD’s mission to promote ongoing economic development initiatives in Downtown New Orleans.

The work will include replacement and widening of sidewalks to support ground floor retail and new pedestrian uses, repaving of City streets, and relocation and upgrade of public utilities. The infrastructure improvements will create 15 construction jobs while the total development is expected to produce 293 permanent jobs, will create 400 additional housing units and complement recent State and local investment in the Sports & entertainment District near the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Developers Buy Four Orleans Parish School Board Properties with Plans to RedevelopPosted on November 20, 2012 by gnorealestatenews

CityBusiness reports that CCNO Development bought four properties at the Nov. 8 auction of surplus Orleans Parish School Board properties. The partners of CCNO Development, Joseph Stebbins and Pierre Walker, acquired the Morris F.X. Jeff School in Mid-City for $920,000 and the Pierre Capdau School on Franklin Street for $612,000. They also bought the Algiers Bus Barn and a vacant lot in Gentilly that are pending school board approval since they sold for less than their appraised value.

The developers say that Morris F.X. Jeff and Pierre Capdau are likely to turn into full-scale development projects of some kind in the next three to five years, and that the other two properties will be redeveloped later. CCNO has a track record of redeveloping similar properties. They are currently converting the former McDonogh 16 building on St. Claude Avenue into a 68-unit residential complex for seniors, and the company also built the Constance Lofts, which were built in a former old cotton press in the Warehouse District
