The DDD, in partnership with the City of New Orleans, is starting limited repairs to Downtown sidewalks in preparation for the 2013 Super Bowl. The DDD will repair the brick sidewalks on St. Charles Avenue and Lafayette and Canal Streets. The DDD will also complete repairs around the vacant service lots on O'Keefe, South Rampart and Poydras Streets.
The State Bond Commission has approved $300,000 of funding for the Downtown Development District of New Orleans (DDD) for planning and construction of improvements to Girod Street to facilitate and complement the Domain Companies South Market District development project.
This project will allow the DDD to provide necessary public infrastructure improvements to facilitate the development of the new mixed-use retail and residential development project. The residential population in the Downtown area has doubled over the past ten years and is expected to increase at the same rate over the next ten years. This project is consistent with the DDD’s mission to promote ongoing economic development initiatives in Downtown New Orleans.
The work will include replacement and widening of sidewalks to support ground floor retail and new pedestrian uses, repaving of City streets, and relocation and upgrade of public utilities. The infrastructure improvements will create 15 construction jobs while the total development is expected to produce 293 permanent jobs, will create 400 additional housing units and complement recent State and local investment in the Sports & entertainment District near the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

CityBusiness reports that CCNO Development bought four properties at the Nov. 8 auction of surplus Orleans Parish School Board properties. The partners of CCNO Development, Joseph Stebbins and Pierre Walker, acquired the Morris F.X. Jeff School in Mid-City for $920,000 and the Pierre Capdau School on Franklin Street for $612,000. They also bought the Algiers Bus Barn and a vacant lot in Gentilly that are pending school board approval since they sold for less than their appraised value.
The developers say that Morris F.X. Jeff and Pierre Capdau are likely to turn into full-scale development projects of some kind in the next three to five years, and that the other two properties will be redeveloped later. CCNO has a track record of redeveloping similar properties. They are currently converting the former McDonogh 16 building on St. Claude Avenue into a 68-unit residential complex for seniors, and the company also built the Constance Lofts, which were built in a former old cotton press in the Warehouse District
