Here's a "Hollywood Nite Club Photo" with 'star' murals instead of photographs.




I'm almost certain who the lovely lady is (in the mural).




Even though this is a "Hollywood Nite Club Photo" I believe it might be a bar in San Francisco.....

Because the address on the back is San Francisco.



If I remember correctly, the more common address for 'Hollywood Nite Club Photos' was somewhere in Culver City....

The Bell & Howell Studio is a commercial structure in Hollywood, California (716 N. La Brea Ave). This beautiful art deco building bares the signature of architect M. H. Wilkenson. Smooth-finish cement stucco over monolithic concrete walls, painted in a light color, affords an excellent reflecting surface. This 1931 building still stands today (february 2022). In the image below you can see how it looked in 1936.

Built at the begining of the 1930s, on 535 S. Gramercy Place, this beautiful art deco apartment building still stands today (february 2022). It bears the sginature of Barber and Kingsbury Architects. Made out of concrete, in La Marquise Apartments both lined and unlined forms were used together with plaster waste molds to obtain the pleasing combination of texture and detail.

A W.P.A. project, the "mini me" City Hall (L.A. municipal building) in the Valley, in homage to big brother "maxi me" L.A. City Hall. The only Valley "skyscraper" until the 1960s.

This fantastic art deco commercial building from Long Beach, Ca is a masterpiece in concrete, bearing the signature of Schilling & Schilling Architects. The entire Long Beach is a heaven for art deco lovers with many well preserved buildings.

In 2020, I posted HERE about James Wong Howe's restaurant that he opened at 11386 Ventura Blvd. in Studio City in 1940. Although I found information, a couple stories and some ads about it, I couldn't locate a photo of it, which was the orginal goal.

At the films 3:55 mark it switches to Ventura Blvd. at Tujunga Ave. heading east in Studio City. At that point on the left the video passes by a building with a blade sign reading "Korner" and then at the 4:00 mark in the upper left hand corner, you'll see a neon sign for the "CHING HOW" restaurant, so you get a very brief glimpse of it beforehand.

It opened in February, 1940, at 11386 Ventura Blvd. and was there for around ten years at least.

I was hoping the footage would continue all the way past Monkey Island but, at 6:10, with 2 mins. 10 secs. to go, it abruptly switches to some other street.

I searched for "Coate" and nothing came up so I believe this photograph is new to NLA. (listed on eBay a few weeks ago)

There is writing on the reverse but it's almost impossible to read.








Now, let's take a closer look.



But it's a bit blurry.





This super-duper detail is clearer.



Note how the lettering on the sign is projected outward creating shadows. (see below)








Lastly, here's a closer look at the people in the windows and on the fire escape.



Note the X near the young man on the fire escape. I'm a bit surprised his name isn't penciled in on the back.

Martin , in your video at the 610 min mark it appears that that street is in Los Feliz. I can make out Hillhurst Ave (which I know well) and this is the area North of Los Feliz Blvd where there are wonderful old Estates on the edge of Griffith Park on that curvy road, I couldn't decipher the cross street though. Great area if you got a few million bucks, much better than Bev Hills.

I worked in the Dominguez-Wilshire building for a few years, until fall 2019. It was great.

Here's the back of the building, seen from the parking lot. All those windows open outward. The owner tried to get all the window air conditioner units removed. Unfortunately that meant a lot of ugly AC ducts in every office.



There are a lot of nice Art Deco touches throughout the building, including the elevator indicators on every floor. They eventually got the indicators in the lobby working.



The door to my "office" (actually an editing bay). Easy to imagine a hardboiled detective had his feet up on his desk in there at some point.



The best part may have been the noirish views from the eighth floor fire escape at sundown every winter, looking west along the Miracle Mile.
