^ Nice pics. Does anyone know if the residence is any bigger than the old one, or is it the same size? Just eyeballing it I'd have to say that they look fairly similar in scale.

Man I know that RWB is already a massive block of stucco, but I was really hoping for a little more … style.. on the residence. It certainly is not a “downtown” building. All the new small apartments on St. Anne and St. Mary’s have more going for them. Wonder if they’ll paint the main building to match… I’m not sure if I’d prefer keeping the pale pink and blue or going to more grey and grey. Hhmph.

There work people working on the exterior 2nd floor of 201 Portage at 11:30pm last night. Are they rushing to get a tenant in by Oct 1? Don’t think I’ve ever seen construction that late in Winnipeg lol.

Oh construction goes on 24/7, worked tons of night shifts doing office renos. Office renos are mostly done at night so as not to upset office workers, who get offended and irritated by any manner of tiny noise or inconvenience and create huge headaches for building owners/management and construction managers.

Its quiet for the office managers but not the essential staff that has the evening and midnight shifts

They have been working in the evenings for the last month if not longer. I notice the reflective vests on the trades when I go by after getting off work at 1am.

I worked in 330 St. Mary when they were doing the re-clad. They didnt start until 4pm and that was more than enough bullshit to deal with haha

I think the issue with the RWB residence is the lack of fenestration. The windows are tiny and few which makes it look like a telephone exchange building, data centre, detention centre, or some other type of institutional use, as opposed to a residence.

It might not be pretty but at the same time I don't think it's terrible. Kind of like its residential neighbour to the south, it adds a bit of density to the block and shores up the street wall without being offensive.

Yeah, the RWB residence kind of continues the City's trend of building as if it's allergic to windows. It's a pretty bland street so I guess it fits in, but I was hoping for something a little more modern. Even something more along the lines of 207 Edmonton.
