Tag along with me for lunch today!

Right before my lunch break from work, I was craving bionicos. So, come lunchtime, that's where I headed...

No, not here...

Parked my car...

Here we are!

I had a bionico with strawberries, bananas, and watermelon for lunch.

My partner has been recovering well from his broken ankle (it's been more than 2 months). He's wearing a small brace over it and has been walking with a slight limp. He ditched the crutches maybe 2 or 3 weeks after he initially broke his ankle. Anyway, we've been getting around here and there for several weeks now. His next appointment with the orthopedist is in about a week and a half.

Anyway, here are some random photos I took between 12/1/24 and 12/24/24...

Often on my lunch breaks from work, I will go to a golf course parking lot and just decompress, either just by sitting in my car with the windows rolled down, listening to the golfers in the distance, or taking a nap.

Yes they are. We're in San Gabriel fairly regularly, and I drive through it on my commute to work and back.

Those last few days of 2024...

Taken on my drive to work. I've encountered this Alfa Romeo Stelvio maybe a week before, and the driver still hasn't taken care of its burned out headlight.

Oh these damn fires. What a way to kick off the New Year.

Will we have to, or won't we have to? Fire Evacuation Anxiety Dinner, Wednesday, 1.8.2025.

We went into neighboring Alhambra for dinner. A number of restaurants in South Pasadena were closed, presumably because of the fires.

They burned my lasagne. How fitting. It still tasted good though.

The air was a lot clearer today in my area. Last I heard, the Eaton Fire was at 35% containment. I took this picture on my drive home from work.

As of this writing, the Eaton Fire is now 81% contained and the Palisades Fire is at 52% containment...

Some random pics, taken between 1.15.2025 and today, 1.19.2025.

If you look in the background there, you can see some of the pink fire retardant on one of the ridges of the San Gabriel Mountains.

I go here for lunch every so often during my work week.

Taken on my drive to work on Friday morning. I thought that was more smoke, and then I realized it was clouds. It was indeed more damp and chilly outside... finally, some humidity to help with the fires. This is more typical of winters in SoCal.

We figured the air in the SGV is still bad due to the ongoing Eaton Fire, so we decided to head to Long Beach. We ended up having an evening snack there - beer, pretzels, and sausages.

Random photos I took within the last 7 days.

Lunch break on 1.22.2025. Back at my usual spot, chillin' in my car at the golf course parking lot. The air looks much clearer, and the smell of smoke from the fire has dissipated.

Heavy traffic during my lunch break. Usually the week of Chinese/Lunar New Year, there are many Chinese people going about shopping and getting ready for their new year celebrations.

Such a relief to see moisture and clouds, to help with the fires. The recent rains helped clear the air. too.

Snow, even.

I work near a slaughterhouse. Right before Chinese New Year, this place gets really busy and causes a lot of traffic, people buying their live or freshly killed chickens.

Nice pics!

Next time I am in the LA area, I will definitely have to hit up Lucky Baldwin's. Looks like an awesome Belgium beer joint. There's one like it in Chicago that I always make a point to hit up when I'm there.

Thanks!

Yes, Lucky Baldwin's has a great selection of Belgian beers, and all other kinds of beers on tap. I also like sour beers and some dark beers and stouts and ales. Years ago they had mead, but they stopped selling that. I recall they had more ciders than they do now (usually now they have 2 or 3). So far, I've seen they only sell one kind of kombucha. I usually have a cider first, and then a beer or two next.

Lucky Baldwin's has 3 locations, and each has its own vibe... we've been to all 3, but our go-to has been the "Trappiste" location on Colorado Blvd., where parking is easier, and I feel it has a more "relaxed" vibe - maybe because we've been going there a long time now, and one of the waiters knows us by name. Each location has a slightly different menu of beers from each other. They change their menu out every season too. "Belgian Beer Fest" is coming up soon. Then of course they have a slightly more extensive German beer selection during Oktoberfest, and then afterwards they have their winter/Christmas beer selections.

Belgians really know how to make beer, huh? They make the best beers IMO. I was never into IPAs, until I had Houblon Chouffe, which I like. Leave it to the Belgians to make the only IPA I like.

OK... so like, on February 14, 2025, I found out I got a new job, a job at another company I had applied for on January 31st of this year... WOO HOO!!! I am FINALLY leaving the company that I've hated for a very long time now!!!! Same type of work, but much better pay and much better benefits, because, you know: Money talks, bullshit walks!!!. I don't start my new job until March 3rd... in another part of the SGV. So, I will have to learn about the restaurants in the area, possibly new places to get drinks, etc.

But anyway, I've been going around so far in this haze of 'I'm just gonna fake it 'til I make it at this current job, and then BYE!!!!!!!' My last day was yesterday, which happened to be the day I gave notice. It felt soooooo good!

And coincidentally, my partner got a promotion at his company, which also meant a significant raise. So we both have had reason to be celebrating. Therefore, we've been gorging on desserts and drinking it up. So, as per usual, some very random photos I took recently...

Congrats on the new job! I think it's natural to want to celebrate with some treats and libations. I just got a new job as well, but I don't start until later in March.

Edit: I have no idea why the yellow triangle pops up in this post!
