I would have no issue with that pivot to blue at the top.

Although see my newest post on Skyrise about that panelling.

There's colour info right down to the Sherwin Williams paint colour in that recently linked site plan PDF on page 26:

Based on the paint chips the "waviness" seems a feature not a defect? That said I've honestly never noticed and I walk by twice a day

Well, there we have it. They fixed the references on the rendered elevations as well in this doc. Blue top it is! I'm all for it. Ottawa is notorious for having a gray box for a skyline.

Yeah the "waviness" is probably a matter of light/angle situation IMO

What gauge is the aluminum?

Typically we'll spec 24-26 gauge if the client doesn't care about oil canning (i.e. this is cheap, thin, and it'll be a bit wavy as a result). Difficult to fasten, as the sheets are prone to tearing around fasteners during wind loading.

18-20 gauge is really thick (greater cost) but not near as much 'wavyness'.

The math obviously changes as the span of flat sheet metal goes up. These are quite large panels, and it would be very difficult to have dead flatness. Perhaps some sort of sandwich panels with stiffer adhered sheets of back-pan would help. Does anyone have a photo of the composite section of a typical panel?

This is why Ideal Roofing sells sheets of wall/roof panels with small crimped reveals rather than dead-flat sheets. The stiffness is increased, and you remove waviness.

A few pics from yesterday.

Can't say I noticed the wavyness when looking at it up close, shaded area or in direct sunlight. But it is quite obvious from Ponyboy's pic.

Sandwhich panel is what I would assume sitting here on my butt having a beer watching people wreck expensive cars on the Nurburgring on Youtube.

You're right, considering it's just an all-in-one prefab cladding panel. I guess the question is, how much structural support is offered to the outer skin? Is it only fastened along the perimeter? Are there stiffeners/purlins/standoffs in the floor-to-floor height of the sheet metal?

How many floors do they have to go until they top out? It is really cool to see them both from the top of the hill beside 1500 Bronson when travelling towards downtown, and I am sure they will be quite prominent from that, and other vantage points when done, especially in the morning when the sun hits them.

I counted roughly 4 floors to go last week + mechanical/sloped roof that adds the equivalent of another 2 floors.

Report on Skyrise that the tallest crane has been raised.

Posted this elsewhere, but I'll post it here too. The best view imo is driving down the KZM about in line with City Centre. The impact these towers have on the skyline, it feels like we're in a whole new era in Ottawa. PdV C dominated for over 50 years, but now it's firmly a secondary character.

Relevé also brings a refreshing modernity, and Renaissance should provide yet another major transformation once it reaches its full height.

On foot, I could only get as far as 60 meters before the Trillium Pathway.

These two towers are starting to look pretty nice, and they kinda serve as a gateway to the downtown when approaching from the west.

I wonder if they will be the tallest towers in the immediate area until the project at city center gets going (if that is even a thing still), or the other towers proposed by claridge in the east flats...

Should be topped out by end of February, early March. Exterior should be complete by June at the latest I'd say.
