Agreed.

Hopefully the fit and finish is not a pile of sh*t like Vancouver House.

Pretty from afar, but far from pretty.

I'm somewhat worried about that with this project. The cladding doesn't look very good up close in my opinion; that grey material is super dull. I do wish they had gone with a bolder color. Hopefully it will look cleaner in the end when the edges are done, because it also looks like a mess right now.

Even with shitty cladding, the shape alone still makes this one of the most interesting new buildings going up right now.

Alberni Street views.

I love this building but sometimes it makes my brain hurt.

From an article at Vancouver Market.

“The design of 1550 Alberni Street is shaped by its environment. The 42-storey tower is carved by two emphatic scoops that form deep balconies furnished in wood. In both instances, the carvings create semi-enclosures that strengthen their relations to the street and to the views – to its urban and geographic context.

Because of the way the otherwise orthogonal tower is carved, its silhouette constantly changes, creating illusionary profiles of arching cantilevers. The reality is far more structured as the carved deductions are diagonally symmetrical, the lower portion helping to counterbalance the hanging volume above."

Doesn't look like anything.

Notice on mcminsen last update, they had a few table-forms remaining to be placed for the 28th floor. Manage to get there today when they were flying the last one.
Also noticed some finishing work on the balconies, thinking that can't be the wood panelling...It is the finishing wood work. It's not as dark colored I'd hoped it would be.

Looks like metal panel with a wood grain finish (wraps peeling off some pieces).
The colour looks quite modern minimalist Japanese to me.

I walked up Georgia today, instead of Alberni and thought it was a nice complement to The Cardero
