We have to remember that Ottawa is at the same latitude as Florence, Italy.

Doesn't feel like it in January, though

Milan (almost exactly)

Whitehorse is going to be +5 tomorrow when we're -19 - latitude is a fickle friend

You can't locate an international agency in Iqualuit...how would you staff it? Who wants to pay $22 for a tomato?

This is the problem with this proposal: international organizations already have headquarters, the countries (or Canadian cities) that host them are attached to them and will fight any attempt to poach them (as Canada did when Qatar tried to poach ICAO). And even if an international organization wanted to move (say there was a dispute with Switzerland) an international organization would not tie its selection process to a land development proposal from some developer in Victoria - they would either have a selection process that Canada would have to actively apply for (including identifying land) or Canada would have to actively engage through backroom channels to sway those in charge.
Bingo. Having been in some of these kinds of meetings I can say that there is no way a land developer would have any knowledge of an international organization being moved. It is not such a simple thing - it would involve extensive Canadian diplomacy and lobbying, as well as the drafting of a host agreement giving the organization a certain legal personality.

What about Aga Khan Foundation which is currently located in Geneva, not sure why but I think I heard something about this.

Perhaps you're thinking of the Global Centre for Pluralism which is already located in the old war museum?

This makes sense. It is certainly 1000 times more likely than a UN agency etc being part of any of these bids. With Switzerland banning minarets etc. it might be the time to move to Canada. Would probably save them a bundle as well.

4. World Trade Organization (WTO):

The Swiss based WTO encourages International trade by establishing trade agreements between countries. With 153 member countries and consisting more than 97% of entire world trade, it propagates the International trade policies.

Well, after looking at the pictures further back in this thread about the additional buildings that have finally gone up and are starting to go up, this is actually starting to resemble more of a urban environment. I actually dislike it less than I did in the past with only 1 building present. If they start getting more retail and landscaping done around there, it will look even more habitable...

Aga Khan and/or the Global Centre for Pluralism is a good theory...they recently applied to rezone part of the property to allow additional offices, because the war museum building was too large for their use... I'm not sure how the renovation plans are going, but perhaps the cost of renovating the building was higher than expected. From their website it doesn't seem like the plans have been finalized http://www.pluralism.ca/index.php?op...id=780&lang=en
Since the NCC is the landowner in both cases it could be easier to renegotiate the leases.

edit: Never mind re: Global Centre of Pluralism... they just got approval to start their new site
https://ismailimail.wordpress.com/20...sign-approval/

new thread for that project http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show....php?p=6926364

Jon Willing is at the Zibi (Chaudière) Development announcement and just posted this tidbit on Twitter:

Turns out Windmill is part of the #Sens bid for Lebreton Flats.
I'm sure we'll see more on that in Ottawa Sun shortly...

Interesting... they've used both Perkins + Will (Zibi) and HOK (Cathedral Hill) in recent projects near LeBreton Flats.

Here's a follow-up Tweet from Willing:

As you might expect, Windmill's Jeff Westeinde didn't want to say more re #Sens/flats bid.
So, maybe we won't hear much else about the subject any time soon

If that's the case then it really seems like the Sens organization is pulling out ALL the stops and making sure they are the ultimate top bid!

I'm excited and hopefull we will see a great proposal from this team and I'm hoping it is the winning bid (*given the design and proposal warrant it of course but I doubt they would go through all this trouble just to propose something shitty).

Don't know if that means Minto is not part of the Sens bid. I thought with Trinity on board, it might have been an SSEG and OSEG partnership.

i'd think windmill would be more involved in the planning stage. In terms of actual construction, they have enough going on with zibi, which is already a much bigger project than anything they've ever done.

Having them involved with planning is important for the integration of the two communities, and rendezvous can probably benefit from the expertise they have gained while planning zibi.

Lebreton flats redevelopment
Silvia Logan
February 25, 2015
I have heard about the Lebreton flats redevelopment plan. I have heard that they were going to put a hockey arena. They were also thinking of putting an inside or outside concert. I know that they were thinking of including condos, retail, and a green space. The LRT is supposed to pass by Lebreton flats. Four of the groups were thinking about putting cultural institutions. Are they by chance going to put a new movie theatre?
