Winnipeg, RM of Rosser end feud
-- City drops plan to annex corner of land -- New faces break impasse on CentrePort

By: Bartley Kives

The once-frosty relationship between Winnipeg and the Rural Municipality of Rosser is on the mend after the city backed away from a plan to annex a corner of its northwestern neighbour.

In 2008, the city approached Rosser with a plan to absorb all the land slated for CentrePort -- a manufacturing, warehousing and distribution centre planned for the outskirts of Richardson...

All you gotta do is read the posting rules. No full articles! Ready for that one to go poof too, or maybe you can still edit it.

Mininari had better act quick though. Ours is a diligent moderator, quick to rebuke the slightest of forum indiscretions. Are you not merciful oh 1ajs...

Ok, I've changed it again.

Honestly, I've never had any issues with posting full articles anywhere on SSP before.
Is this a relatively new policy???

A Manitoba Govt News release

Manitoba News Release
............................................................
March 26, 2011

MANITOBA AND ILLINOIS
TO SIGN HISTORIC AGREEMENT

CHICAGO - Premier Greg Selinger and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) today to foster co-operation in key areas including trade and inland port development, expansion of the innovation economy, clean energy trade, water protection and crime prevention.

"Illinois and Manitoba share a common history as transportation hubs and centres for commodity trade and retail distribution throughout North America," said Selinger. "This agreement marks an important milestone in strengthening the already deep and enduring ties between our jurisdictions by ensuring we remain continental leaders in these areas, while also positioning ourselves to fully realize exciting new opportunities in the global economy."

In 2010, Manitoba-Illinois trade totalled more than $2.1 billion, making Illinois Manitoba's second largest U.S. trading partner and number one source of imports among American states.

"This important agreement solidifies our commitment to working together to ensure both Illinois and Manitoba continue to grow and succeed in the global marketplace," said Quinn. "Global partners are critical to our efforts to boost our economies and create jobs."

The MOU formalizes the intentions of the Province of Manitoba and State of Illinois to work together on:

- expanding trade, tourism, transportation and the development of inland ports;

- fostering growth of the mid-continent innovation and knowledge economy with a focus on life sciences and biotechnology;

- exchanging knowledge and best practices in water stewardship, river management and research;

- examining options for clean energy trade and services, and;

- sharing best practices in crime prevention with a focus on youth.

Nice, an MOU is a step in the right direction, but I would like to see how it specifically breaks down or ensures these things rather than just the expected output

On a related note, I was coming back home from the perimeter the scenic route the other day and I noticed that CentrePort Way is coming along nicely.

Its hard to get pics, but man there is a ton of activity out there.

I drove by the Perimeter-CCW cloverleaf intersection. It seems to be really coming along. I cannot wait until this project is completed. I may take some photos on the weekend.

That whole area from Roblin Blvd to the just north of the new interchange on the Perimiter is one giant construction project, lots of action.

Yeah, there's a ton of work there

Imagine if they did something similar and got rid of those pesky traffic light around the Perimeter too! (must be something to do with the RM's I suppose)

Doing something about vehicles making left-hand turns from the left-hand travel lane onto dirt roads would also be nice... its always nice that have that vehicle in front of you slow down, and STOP, in the left-hand lane of a 100km/hr roadway.

How can Centreport be taken seriously when its major corridor is only open 10 months of the year?

Still can't believe this roadway was never upgraded since the '97 flood.
