Drapeau and all the other visionaries from the 1970's must be spinning like metal lathes in their graves right now with all the talk of new stadiums and renovations in Montreal and not including their baby the big Owe in the mix.

Still better than "a clear retard compared to other stadiums of the league" would have been!

I went to two games at CTC. A Jets game which Manitobans outnumbered the Senator fans and the other was so boring I cannot remember who played. An absolute pain in the ass to get to and nothing to entice you to stay. If you want a poster child of 80's thinking CTC is your baby!

To me, as a Leafs fan, one of the great sporting experiences in this country is taking the shuttle bus from the city out to the arena. Filled entirely with away fans staying at central hotels. Chanting at the bus stop, calling up to Leafs fans on hotel balconies, someone breaking out a pack of beer. Then you board the bus and it's an hour of singing, drinking, and taunting the driver who will inevitably be wearing a Senators sweater. And then of course the entire arena is filled with boisterous Leafs support, far louder than you'd ever find at home.

As for the Alouettes moving in there, I remember one of the reasons they and the Expos wanted out of Olympic Stadium was because the location was considered too inconvenient. Is that an issue at all for CF Montreal? In some respects I was a little surprised when that stadium was built in the first place considering all the criticism we've heard of the Big O's location.
The Expos wanted to attract people working downtown on weekdays, a downtown stadium makes it easier. The Olympic Stadium (and therefore the Saputo Stadium) has a good location for week-end events, when you are not as pressed for time. Baseball has about twice as many games on weekdays than of weekends, it is not the case for soccer and football.

These are good points.

I haven't done the math. It feels you should be able to buy a few more drinks after work for the price of a Blue jays ticket up the first base line than you could 15 years ago. The safety netting up the lines are a good thing but, it also takes away from the game like using my verticality to glove a ball away from a kid.

The temporary seating for the south end of Tim Hortons Field for the Heritage Classic this coming weekend.

https://www.thespec.com/sports/hocke...ons-field.html

Capacity is still listed at 24,000 despite the additional 3,000 temp seats. Game is essentially sold out AFAIK.

Tim Hortons Field getting into hockey mode for next Sunday and Monday. It was 16C on the weekend though and that turned the rink into a pond. Should be ok now, they planned around it and temps will be in the low single digits this week and freezing at night, with Saturday being coldest (it may snow a bit too)

I briefly considered going, but one look at the seating chart and how far away the ice is made it an instant "No", and seeing this pics really solidifies that opinion. Looks like a terrible way to watch hockey.

I'm sure that's been obvious to everyone for all the years the stadium series has been going, but I've never thought about it before it was in my backyard.

I went to the games they had at Ivor Wynne in 2012. We were seated fairly low in the north stands. It wasn't too bad sight-wise but that field was much narrower than THF's so we were closer to the action. I'd have not wanted to sit in an upper section.

The night game was frigid. Fun, but despite bundling up really well I still felt like an ice cube just sitting there without walking around. The day game was much better for temperature from what I recall, but it was a very sunny day and the glare coming off the ice was horrible. This game will be later in the afternoon so hopefully those seated on the east side won't have to deal with that.

At Winnipeg's Heritage Classic the upper seats were actually the pricier ones, as the lower seats did not have a great view.

The stadium games are a total racket which is why I have no interest in attending. If they charged normal prices then it might be an interesting novelty that's worth the price, but the teams always jack up the prices so you have to pay 3x the regular cost of a NHL game for shittier views and less comfort. No thanks. I am amazed that people actually go for this.

^agreed in full. It's a fun event, but gimmicky and not good viewing.

The California ones have the most appeal because sitting outside in LA - even in January - is actually not too bad.

Otherwise, I am with you.

The outdoor games have always been about the event over the game itself. A unique experience for people to take in if they like. Views from seats are always bad with a few specific venues standing out - I think some of the baseball fields had decent views from height without being too far away?

I'd definitely go to an outdoor game in California/Texas/Carolina if it was nice enough outside. Not interested in freezing.

The previous Hamilton games involved some alumni shinny the night before an AHL game. I don't recall it being that pricey, but I have zero interest in this weekend's event and doubt I ever would want to attend an outdoor NHL "classic" no matter where it's held, not just because of the expense but also because if I'm going to pay to see a sport (especially a lot of money) I'd rather it be in its appropriate setting.

City Council in Calgary met regarding the events centre yesterday and struck up a new task force. We'll see what happens.

I also went to the AHL game in 2012. It was indeed glorious outside in the afternoon. I stayed for half of it just to take in the experience. Paid $5 to someone outside with a bunch of extra tickets. Definitely would not even consider full price. My coworker (bro is TSN president)had three extra tix for leafs wings at BMO and I passed because I went to the alumni game the day before and too cold at night. So yeah, just wanted to check out the unique set up but had no interest in watching hockey like that.
