I thought these were interesting, although it's too bad they have text on them. The "ultra" label refers to ultra-large container ships, which over 14,000 TEUs or so and are too big to call on many ports.

Mississauga's North West/Erin Mills Skyline

Just a photo of Erin Mill's neighbourhood skyline.....none of these buildings (all residential) existed 20 years ago.....(tallest towers sit at 25 floors, skyline is filling out but not getting higher)

Super Toronto pics. I love how that Victoria Street corridor looks.

More density equals more better.

Are they some sort of Pomo allusion to pediments (albeit rectangular ones) or something, in some cases capping perhaps not a building but a texture, as in 88 Scott? I've been calling it 'box-mouth architecture' in my own mind for a while now, because they look like mouths screaming 'kill me.' 88 Scott is the epitome of this - but they are everywhere. They are so distracting and brutally ugly, imo. 19 Duncan has a dinky little frameless one seemingly for no reason whatsoever, just a little random box notch out of it. I see these moves everywhere. The Chaz, 30 Bay, Grangeway, West One, King Blue -- is it just me? They rarely look good, imo. Maybe the Chaz one is ok, being aligned to the center and all symmetrical like. Why are architects plopping these things into their facades? What iiiis the deal?

I'm actually super curious about these things - so if anyone can enlighten me, that'd be great.

Also, otherwise a great shot of the CBD! Can barely see the former Trump tower even -

Functionally I imagine they make for good common spaces in the building. Fitness centre, games room, conference rooms with floor to ceiling windows.

Design-wise they add no value whatsoever.

I completely agree! They are all over Vancouver now too, these boxes. It's like look, another glass condo tower with a box stuck onto the side! Even the tallest building in the city has one. This box trend was okay when it first started but became way too common, and it's been going on for 10 years now! God architects, move on to something else please

And what's with this disaster in downtown Vancouver? I haven't had a close look at this building yet but it looks like 40 stories of exposed concrete elevator core. Oh my bad, it's actually been painted. We used to build playful and attractive postmodern designs like the shorter building just in front of it with it's picturesque roof line, but no can't have that anymore it doesn't contribute to the bottom line. Yikes, oh well.

"Potential" is the right word. It's still largely an industrial wasteland, as is obvious in that shot.
