I just saw a clip on Action News that some lady was hit by a piece of facade somewhere on Walnut during a construction project. They didn't say what the project was but apparently the facade knocked the pedestrian out because a witness is saying that she couldn't tell if the accident victim was dead or alive as she lay in the street.

Anyone know what the heck is going on?

It was 201 S 13th St and she's in critical condition. Why tf don't they have one of those scaffolding walkways up? Are they not required here? I've seen them plenty of times

Is that the old Second Empire building at the corner? Glad to hear they’re doing work on it, upset to hear they’re not doing it right. I hope the woman is okay.

The city really needs to require safety coverings over sidewalks for active construction/restoration sites as in done in NYC. Either you risk having something hit you or you’re forced to walk on the street.

The Walnut Square Apartment Building.

Interesting review from 3 months ago...

I'm not here to give it a star rating as I don't live there. However, last night a huge piece of the stone facade came crashing down onto Chancellor Street. It could have easily killed someone. I would expect this is going to be an ongoing issue for the residents and the surrounding neighbors on Walnut, 13th, and Chancellor Streets.

Apparently owned by PMC? Major lawsuits coming...

That's absolutely terrifying. I've walked by that building a million times. I feel terrible for the victim and wish her a quick and full recovery.

Very interesting bit of information for any plaintiffs lawyers that might be perusing these forums. Check the google reviews on the apartment complex. Here's one "I'm not here to give it a star rating as I don't live there. However, last night a huge piece of the stone facade came crashing down onto Chancellor Street. Yipes.

Does Philly have a mandatory façade inspection/repair cycle for buildings over a certain height? And yeah, the lack of a sidewalk shed there is a problem.

My Coop here in Brooklyn (2 16-story mid-Century buildings) is currently in the middle of a "Local Law 11" cycle in which every 5 years, we have to spend a few million dollars and many months to inspect and repair our façades and terraces. I'm my Coop Board President, so beyond just living through it I've also got to deal with financing it.

Good thing we have 235 regulations for sidewalk streeteries yet it's the Wild West when it comes to construction sites and pedestrian safety.

To that end, I know this was commented upon in another thread, but I found myself walking on 11th Street last night for the first time in a few months; it is virtually impassable between Walnut and Clover Streets. The sidewalk on 11th between Walnut and Sansom is blocked off on both sides of the street.

I didn't think it possible, but it may now surpass 12th Street as far as sidewalk construction closures and dangers to pedestrians. No temporary safety chutes anywhere to be found.

Was also on 76 when I saw this, had to get a pic

Do we expect CTC to be upgraded to color LEDS soon? that strip of LED is very promising, I don't think I've ever seen that before unless it was always there just not in use.

Everything lit green on the Comcast towers is brand spanking new. It should be well presumed now that the tops of 1 and 2 will have their LED lighting finished up

The last shot there is incredible.

I was blown away driving home on 76 this evening. The city looked fantastic.

Also the Cira Center had a moving display saying "Go EAGLES" and then a pic of the bird. Looked awesome BUT there were too many office lights on so it was pretty faint.

Anyway, props to the lighting gurus. The city looks incredible now

Hope they add changing colors led to the top of the light saber on CTC. Having that could be like a beacon of all sorts.
