I don't pay any attention to either sport - but having seen what a "usual" crowd at a MLB game is in a nice park (I stay at a hotel across the street from Camden Yards in Baltimore when I go down there for a comic convention every year) .. I think the money would be put to better use for a football stadium that could be used for more than just basically one thing. I don't understand how they make any money with a draw as low as the seem to get.. also I don't think there's anything more boring than seeing the pace of an MLB game in real life

Yeah, understood. Just thought I'd toss some variety into the conversation as it seems to be centered on the CFL.

Actually, in the US (not sure about Canada) quite a few cities have both in the same area - football side-by-side with baseball. While I'm sure that an MLB team would never survive here, perhaps we could support a 'triple A' team if there was a desire for that type of direction. Was away on business last week and flew over some really nice-looking stadiums during my travels. Couldn't help but think how there's no reason that we shouldn't be able to do the same, as most of these stadiums were not near the downtown but actually seemed to be near transportation hubs.

Yeah, but Americans, especially in the south, are nuts over high-school sports. $62 million of debt-financed cash for a high-school football stadium in a small Texas city is all kinds of crazy.

This is comparing apples to oranges. Americans love their football and they love using a ton of money to build stadiums to watch football in, taxpayer funded or not.

Americans know and understand that if you spend money people will respond.
I used to attend a church in Fort Lauderdale which spent 10s of thousands of dollars to host their Christmas Eve service, but in turn they would get donations back from passing the plate 2 or 3 times what was spent.

Very True..but it's sad when you think a city of over 400,000 people can't get a stadium built!

I personally will never attend a game or event there if it means traveling all the way to DC and fighting traffic.

Side note: Halifax better step up its game up in terms of public transport if they do decide to develop a stadium there.

Wish it could just be plopped on the peninsula somewhere or Shannon Park.

I actually think that DC wouldn't be a bad location, if HRM would step up and put strong transit in there, or at least step it up when there are events at the stadium. There is already good infrastructure in place for traffic that handles the daily mad rush around Burnside. In the evenings and weekends, when events would occur, the surrounding roads are not that busy, so there would be plenty of capacity to handle event traffic IMHO.

It's interesting that people think DC is so far out there, but in the context of a larger city (which we are moving in the direction of becoming) it's not that far out - really just a 15 minute drive from downtown Halifax, 20 minutes from Bedford/Sackville, etc.

Agreed. There's nowhere on the peninsula to fit a stadium except the Cogswell lands, and I'd far rather see a decent mixed-use neighbourhood build-out there.

Considering it would likely be in the vicinity of the Harbour East All-Weather Sports Fields, it's just a stone's throw from Shannon Park anyways; six minutes driving according to google.

It's hard to advocate for Shannon Park, but then say "Hell no! I'll never go all the way to Dartmouth Crossing if they put it there."

DC would be a great place for a stadium. It really is centrally located in terms of the whole Metropolitan area and especially if you consider people coming in on 102 from points north (Moncton) and 101 via Bedford Bypass. And access from Halifax on the MacKay/111. I see DC/Mic Mac area evolving into its own satellite city like North York or Mississauga.....in the future of course but the skeleton is already there.

On thaaaaat note, a stadium won't just be hosting sporting events, it can host events like monster truck rallies or circuses. Therefore it will need a way for heavy truck traffic to get there and park. Just food for thought.
