I presume the location they will be moving to will be the former Blacks (and temporary Stitch It) location. The Froshberg space there is also newly vacant, but wouldn't be large enough.

So, with the empty space next door currently with drywall up, this would mean that once Cazza moves, there would be two side-by-side CRUs potentially available for consolidation. Frequently when this happens, the spaces are consolidated into a single unit. I wonder if this could happen here????

Suddenly things are picking up at CF Champlain:

- Pur & Simple under construction
- Thai Express getting close to opening
- Journeys announced
- Samuel & Co. announced
- Cazza Petites getting ready to move into a larger space.

I wonder what will be next.........
The former blacks space is smaller than what they are in now so that’s weird. If they are moving to a bigger space but not necessarily by Sobeys, they could move right next door. Either way I can see Journeys going in one of either Cazza Petites current location, of the newly renovated unit right next door to it.

As for Samuel & Co, I imagine it’ll likely go in the former Hyba location, but I could also see it going where Payless is once their done their liquidation sale.

That would leave the former Mexx kids space, one of Hyba or Payless, froshberg, one of the former blacks, Cazza Petites current unit and the one next to it as well as the two units next to Thai Express as the only vacancies in the mall!

Photo from Retail Talk & Share showing the new exterior entrances for Pur & Simple and Thai Express flanking Entrance 9 into CF Champlain.

Signage of course isn't up yet. There are two other small exterior facing CRUs available adjacent to the Thai Express. I presume that CF Champlain is marketing this small exterior strip for small food and service outlets for people using the bus stop. The bus stop here is one of the three large bus terminals in the city (the other two being the Avenir Centre and Plaza Blvd).

I have it on very good (second hand) authority that things are going to start moving at the Granite Centre very soon.

There is at least one first to market retailer which will be opening an "iconic store" at the Granite Centre this fall.

I am not privy as to which chain we are talking about, but I have been advised that the earth movers should be on site later this spring..........

Playdium by Cineplex has been announced for Dartmouth Crossing in Halifax.

A new space to play games, try virtual reality and let loose with friends is coming to Dartmouth Crossing with the first Playdium location in Atlantic Canada.

The planned 30,000-square-foot games complex will be built just steps away from the existing Cineplex theatre at Dartmouth Crossing.

On top of offering arcade games and virtual reality experiences, the complex will also showcase activities like bowling and a rope course, and have a variety of food options.

Construction of the Playdium is scheduled to begin this fall, and it is expected to open in 2020.
So, Playdium is announced for Dartmouth Crossing, and it's sister brand Rec Room is under construction at Avalon Mall in St John's. I would say that it shouldn't be too long before we may see one of these two concepts here in Moncton too..........

So the rumour is now that the two side by side CRUs soon to be vacated by Cazza Petites and formerly home of Country Lane will indeed be combined and will become the new home of Samuel & Co. this July.

Cazza Petites will be moving into the vacant space between Envy and Spring.

So, where will Journeys go? The old Hyba location???

The T&T quotes Craig O'Neil as eyeing Dieppe for a second IHOP.

Did O'Neil say the second IHOP is coming to Dieppe, or may be coming to Dieppe.

The headline of the article seemed to imply it is a done deal, but I don't currently have access to online content, so I was unable to verify this.

It is as you stated, the headline says it is coming, but the story says he's "looking at" anothe rin Dieppe. However, the story also says he's "looking at putting one on Mountain Road" as well.
So hard to guess what the reporter is talking about, exactly.

Let's look at this again and use some deductive reasoning.

- The fact that Craig O"Neil was answering that question leads me to believe that Corey/Craig will be the owner/operator or the franchisee of the local IHOPs, not just the developer or the contractor, especially since we may now be looking at two stores and not one.

- IHOP is on the record as stated that they have a "relationship" with Corey/Craig.

- Corey/Craig is building the Hyatt Place Hotel.

- The Hyatt Place will have a "nationally branded" restaurant with an outdoor patio on the ground floor.

- IHOP purchased Applebee's in 2007, and the two brands now operate under the banner Dine Brands Global

- What if Corey/Craig is to be the local franchisee for both IHOP and Applebee's?

- It would make sense then that the nationally branded restaurant coming to the Hyatt Place Hotel would indeed be Applebee's.

- Nothing is set in stone of course, but the entrails seem to lead in this direction..........

Finally Drewber mentioned on the Hyatt Place thread that a (semi reliable) source of his had stated that Applebee's was coming to the Hyatt Place.

Hmmmmmm........

If Applebee's is coming to Moncton, people should manage their expectations, the price, selection and promotions won't exactly be what is found in the U.S. locations. I like Applebee's too but I don't expect the exact thing here, I've been to the one in Niagara Falls and it's just not the same. But yes it would be quite nice to have something unique to the market.

I finally read that T&T article.

It confirms that Corey/Craig will be the Atlantic Canadian franchisee for IHOP.

They plan on opening five IHOP locations in Atlantic Canada over the next six years. This includes the location on Mountain Road and apparently a second potential location in Dieppe.

As for other locations, there are rumours of an IHOP opening in Charlottetown on the PEI thread. Halifax would be a no brainer too. The question would be "will there be two HRM locations for IHOP, or one in Halifax and one in St. John's NL" (my guess would be two Halifax locations).

The Mountain Road location will open between October and December and employ 50-80 people.

Craig O'Neil expects to announce the name of the Hyatt Place Hotel restaurant "very soon." My spider senses are tingling for Applebee's................

It is (sorta) although the time frame of construction and the location of the franchise are to be determined.

It was more a confirmation of this:

Quote:
The company said it has reached an agreement in principle with the Corey Craig Group, a Moncton, N.B.-based developer, to hold the IHOP franchise for the region.
Which, given the fact that Dine Brands also owns Applebee's, and Corey Craig is building the Hyatt Place Hotel, increases the odds that the restaurant in the new hotel might be an Applebee's..........
