The artwork is totally significant and important. One of the homes, as said above, is a recreation of Malcolm Lowry's shack on the North Shore where he wrote Under the Volcano. This is basically as close as Vancouver gets to having our own Kerouac or Twain. It is one of the most important bragging points for culture in British Columbia.

Yes, the art is interesting, in general. Higher quality stuff than perhaps I am used to, historically, from Vancouver.

That said, the sky is closer from up high and I'd rather be up there than down on the street looking at the art

Poor thread not getting any love lately.

More action near the Granville Bridge, this area will see a lot of action in the next few years. We have the Mark from Onni, the Cressey project on Howe, The Rolston by the Rize and now this one from Concert. I'm sure there are a couple of others too.

There are very few proposals that are worth getting excited about, at this point it's about tying nicely with the existing neighbourhood. If any project improves the area it's going into that's a good thing.

Thats a decent FSR increase, the added density should be nice to what is a pretty dead area of DT rigth now. Given these proposals and a few others in the pipeline this area will be an exciting one to watch, with a few pretty decent towers coming (The mark, Pattison's development, and a few other large projects in the pipelines).

The tower does seem quite boring, reminds me of Patina with the brick veneer and glass facades, but its not too tall so some more bland infill isnt the end of the world.

Poor people deserve a free house that's nicer than all of ours given to them

We've been debating this for years

At over double the cost of normal social housing, they are in the end not helping the problem, as less people are getting homes for a lot more funding, which will not be coming again.

For the few hundred million (which most certainly is a one-time funding) they are spending, they could build one hell of a big building, with many times the units.

That and, giving people homes actually does nothing to solve the root cause of homelessness, but is an easy political victory to the bleeding hearts.
