I am a huge fan of the very talented and hard working group of people at Studio Gang and bKL for that matter, but thus far, the solution and placement of the louvers and the general concept for the blow through floor appears pretty difficult to defend formally.
I would really be curious to hear an explanation from the design team. In my opinion, most architects with deeper experience in tall tower design would have killed or substantially changed the design/concept of the building after it (presumably) failed in wind tunnel tests repeatedly (therefor requiring the blow through floor).
I hope what we are seeing will be improved somehow and that this project does not become the poster child example of why the 'it's all about the big idea and damn the details' approach to architecture should not be used when designing tall buildings.
Nothing "failed" (or even came close) to wind tunnel testing. The blow through floor was added to reduce sway to help appease top caliber buyers with making the building as comfortable as possible. If you refer to 432 Park and 111 W 57th in NYC both buildings added blow through floors when construction was almost complete for this very reason. Not uncommon at all.
It would be like adjusting your Mercedes from normal to comfort suspension mode.
I also am onboard with the vents' color/aesthetic. The halfway vent though is jarring.
I totally get the irritation by the masses of the halfway extension of the mid rise vents. One point of consideration. This is the back side of the building. Note that these vents don't wrap around any of the the adjacent sides. No one says anything about the fact that these bands of black just exist on one of four planes. There are no vents on any of the other three sides. This is the "back" of the ladies dress, where the zipper is and other parts. It's beautiful, imo. It has a nice character to it.

the halfway vent sucks sucks regardless which side you consider its on...this side is facing grant park!...one could argue the more popular side ...why wouldn't you just make it consistent..I mean its so random its hard not to question it

Agree, it is a true distraction. Odd, some people can give it a pass so easily.

Any word on a lighting scheme at the very top for Vista because it looks like some led panels would fit comfortably behind the very top glass panels....
I'd agree the halfway-reaching vent will take some getting used to if we'll have to live with it. But -- It will never bother me as much as the uneven antenna towers on 875 N. Michigan.
