This also appeared on Greg Turner's FB page:

It looks like Moncton South may be the future home to two six-storey buildings on Lorentz Drive in the New West End .

This would be located on that vacant lot right across the street from the existing Lorentz Apartment Buildings (six and eight storey white buildings). I remember members of SSP commenting on the land assembly last year (I think). I believe it might have been Ashford that bought the land, but I am not sure.

This looks like a Spitfire design, but I don't see anything about this on their website. This proposal has also not come before PAC or city council yet. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds............

You're right, it is Ashford. There's a story on the TJ site today, but behind the pay wall of course.

https://tj.news/story/101607181

And I do also recall this being discussed some time ago. I believe the pandemic delayed their plans for the Lorentz project.

Indeed. Here's a render from the T&T site:

Better quality, and won't "disappear" after a few weeks like the images posted on Facebook.

It is a Spitfire design, like I thought.

A bit of additional information:
1) - 235 residential units
2) - some ground level commercial.

These buildings are awfully close together. I presume there will be underground parking. I wonder if there will be a common parkade shared by these two buildings.

The amount of apartment construction going on in this city right now is just friggin incredible............

So would Ashford construct their other planned building on Campbell/Sangster first, and then do the Lorentz Drive buildings after that one?

When you consider all the land south of Main Street that's also ripe for development, Ashford seems to have a lot on their plate. Sounds like it might be a while before we see anything happening behind the Assomption building.

My assumption has been that the building on Highfield/Campbell would be started as soon as their building on Gordon/Highfield is completed.

There is no reason why this development on Lorentz would have to wait until the Highfield/Campbell building is completed however. We'll see.

The lands behind Assumption Place are intimately tied to Downing Street Phase 2&3, and to the city's desire to relocate the city market and maybe the city library. This is going to take oodles of planning, and would rival Assumption Place in terms of being the largest development in the history of the city. I don't imagine this will take place for a long time.

One thing about getting these "smaller" projects out of the way first is that this will generate some cash flow to help finance the big project behind Assumption.

In a sense yes, the city has to replace sewage and water mains along sangster and I forget the other streets name. Similar to what happening for St. bernards square. I would assume they will begin late summer on this project or fall

Greg has been a real font of information today!

This confirms previous speculation.

The Robinson Court area appears to be undergoing a renaissance. Is this a sign that the ague created by the pandemic is starting to lift? Main Street took a beating over the last 16 months. It's good to see things coming back to life. Let's hope what is happening on Robinson Court spreads along the entire strip.

1) - Tandoori Zaika is expanding and adding a patio.
2) - a brew pub or tap room is moving into the old Rouge location.
3) - Pizza Girls/Katch Seafood is relocating next door to where Keating's used to be.
4) - Smokes Poutinerie is moving into where Pizza Girls/Katch is currently located.

And, Happy Brew Pub is soon opening up almost directly across the street on the other side of Main.

This is a good start!

Regarding the new apartment complex proposed for Lorentz - apparently this was discussed at the city council meeting tonight. Mayor Dawn Arnold published the site plan on her Facebook page:

This is a very large complex, and, yes, there is underground parking, but there will not be a common parkade.

There should be more information available in the next couple of days regarding this proposal on the "public notices" page on the city hall website, as proposed rezoning of this land will have to be discussed at a public meeting. I will keep an eye out for additional images and information.

Galco Atlantic has confirmed that a group of partners plans to open a microbrewery in the former Club Rouge space on Robinson Court, with a planned opening towards the end of 2021.

Here's some more information regarding the Lorentz Street proposal above, that was discussed at Moncton City Council last evening:

1) - the project will be built in phases, with the smaller building (90 units) at the corner of Falkland & Lorentz to be constructed first.
2) - the second building (145 units) will have ground level commercial space facing Main Street.
3) - both buildings will have underground parking and enclosed ground level parking.

I never thought I'd be worried about oversaturation of the craft brewery taproom/storefront market in Moncton, but here we are.

Off the top of my head, here's what Greater Moncton has already:
Pumphouse (x2 locations)
Tide and Boar (x2 locations)
Tire Shack
Celtic Knot
Holy Whale (soon to have a bowling alley as well)
Flying Boats
CAVOK
Gahan House
Happy Craft (opening soon)

Add to this others that produce kegs and are served around the area.

There seems to be a lot of confidence growing about downtown Moncton lately.

This will be 2 new microbreweries in the core. There's also Smoke's Poutinerie going in where Pizza Girls was, which is moving to the old Applewood location. It's also nice to see the Higgins block getting new tenants.

It would be really great to see the pre-covid vibrancy return to Main Street!

The documents regarding the proposed Lorentz Street Apartments (apparently this is what the complex will be called) have already been posted on the city's "public notices" webpage.

Here are a few additional renders:

The last image is the Main Street frontage, and shows the ground level commercial space to be included on the left of the building. I personally don't know what this would be suitable for. It doesn't really scream "retail" to me, and I don't think it would necessarily be suitable for a restaurant either. Perhaps they are thinking of office space, but I don't know.

Maybe a small urban grocery store (ala Pete's Frootique) or something? That's a lot of new units and the closest grocery store would be the Superstore in Riverview.

Unfortunately, other than a McDonalds, Subway and a Tim's, there isn't much in that area within easy walking distance for shopping or services. A hair salon would be a good idea or some other service business. Not really much room around that area for anything else. Maybe this will give life to the old Tirecraft building by Tims.

What about a pharmacy with a grocery department? There isn't one around there afaik.
