+1C and sunny in Moncton at 11 AM.

The snow starts here late this evening, with about 10-15 cm expected. There is a little more expected in NS, where they have issued a snowfall warning.

The forecast says we should expect wet snow to start late this afternoon and continue through the night. TWN puts accumulation at less than a cm/hr and temps not falling below 1 until the skies clear tomorrow. Yesterday's high was 7.9 and the low was 2.4 at 9 am this morning. Currently it's 2.8 under a cloudy but bright sky. The normals for today at YHZ 4/-4. ...though still waiting on the 'new' normals to be made available.

A Hastings subway combined with north-south transit route would change things a lot, but would require a lot of up-zoning to be viable. The Hastings subway could also serve the West End. Who cares about Langley? They should build that stuff instead.

I tried the bus again, this time heading to my parents’ instead of back from there. It was better. Maybe 35 minutes of walking, plus 45 minutes of riding, one transfer, for a trip that takes about 15 mins in a car At least my work commute is about the same length of time as just driving there.

My sanity song for the winter lol

No snow in the Edmonton area at all, hopefully we can get some before Christmas. It's cold enough at night that it wouldn't all melt anyways.

Yeah, Gastown/Eastern Downtown/DTES/Chinatown's stock & scale of historic buildings is pretty impressive for a city of Vancouver's vintage; and the newer infill (especially in Gastown) is mostly high-quality and/or modestly scaled such that it enhances rather than detracts from the atmosphere. It's some of the best built form in Canada and could be one our best urban experiences if not for some of the obvious...social issues in the neighbourhood.

At the same time, the area's malaise is probably a big part of why so much of it was able to survive intact. If the CBD and prime residential neighbourhoods hadn't shifted west, there'd have been a lot more development pressure.

I think a Hastings-to-Stanley Park subway line is also the missing piece of Vancouver's transit network. Have there ever been any serious proposals for something like this though?

First real snowfall of the year.

0C and snowing. Supposed to keep snowing overnight.

Low of -2C (wind chill of -8) last night.

The warmspot was Saanichton, BC at 12.2C.

Warmest low was Discovery island, BC at 7.5C

Looks like it is only raining near the border. Yet again, we are just north of the border between rain and snow. A warming climate would totally change winters here but unfortunately it is not as strong in Eastern North America as Europe for example.

The graph backs up my anecdotal observations that Halifax had a much cooler November, which is actually closer to normal vs the abnormally warm Sep/Oct that we had. December 1 started off as a warmish, sunny day but the month has taken a colder turn, with daytime highs going down to -2 for a couple of days this week (normal +4) with a couple of nights at -8 (normal -4). Our chance of snow has turned into a snowfall warning tonight with up to 20 cm coming - which I can report is well along on its way now, as it has been snowing heavily for awhile. First shoveling of the season coming up!

What always surprises me is a the negligible costal effect seen in Saint John despite being on the water compared to Fredericton. I expected it to be more akin to Halifax. Even in the summer it’s overnight lows are often the coolest in the Maritime locations I cover.

My impression, from having spent time in both SJ and Fredericton is that your expectations are realistic. I suspect that November 2023 must have been an anomaly of sorts as typically SJ is approx 2 degrees warmer for high and low temps than Fred.

-1C and light snow in Moncton at 8 AM. Temperatures will remain stable all day, with the snow tapering off by early afternoon.

At present, we only have a light coating in Moncton (blades of grass still peaking through the snow), and, only about 5 cm total is expected. This is a relief as I have one son commuting to work in Freddy and a second son who isn't getting his snow tires on until Thursday.

Meanwhile, in Halifax, there is already 20 cm of snow on the ground and 18,000 customers without power. The storm went further off shore than expected and is hitting NS far worse than NB.

Dear gawd! Will it ever stop?!! lol I'm enjoying knowing that I'm no longer responsible for shovelling snow.

Pics from last night and this morning...

The low on the basin was -0.1 at 10 pm last night our high yesterday was 3.0. Currently we're at 1.3, it's very calm and the snow continues to fall. We'll likely keep the snow through Friday when the temps start to increase with, currently, TWN forecasting a high of 13 for Saturday. Temps have been all over the place this fall.

Not enough snow to shovel in Moncton.

There is enough snow on the ground though to brighten things up and get rid of the late fall gloom.

Edmonton had no recorded snow for all of November the first time since weather has been recorded at YEG (1928).
