It'll be developed just like all the other lots have been developed. That space is large enough for several buildings. You'll just have to be patient for the next few years and wait and see what's proposed.

Someone on ssc made a sketch up of this project. Feel free to download this on google earth, and see it at different angles.

I hear that there might be some serious budget issues with this design (shock)...

Translation is that Jim Loewenberg is having some issues of course. I hope the Chinese gang (see what I did there?) can talk him down from any severe VE......

Hey, any word on "O", btw? Still up for a spring groundbreaking? I'd heard there was yet more shifting around of the hotel flags...........

Chicago seems to fail to build half the cool projects that are proposed. It would be really sad if this didn't go through or got shortened/made into a box.

Fingers crossed that doesn't happen.

Well, it's not even anywhere near VE yet.... what I heard was it had a specific budget (somewhat generous, I think) and the current design came in somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% (!) over with structure being the biggest overage...

as far as "O", you are correct, sir... all I know is they are still trying to nail down the flags...

News like this is why I often don't believe the "great design doesn't have to be expensive" crowd

I loved the design, although at 1150' it would have created a plateau (albeit a high one) in the city, since there are similar sized towers in the area.

Well... hope the ~700 foot box they replace this beauty with is better than what replaced water view tower

My office has had bids/projections come back at similar levels, often from contractors who do not have a wealth of experience working on complicated facade systems, or because of a few rather pricey specifications that slipped through the cracks.

If this was round one of cost projections I wouldn't be overly concerned.

For real. That really would be too good to be true.

Since they're having budget issues (how someone goes 90% over budget is just beyond me) I would just assume that something way shorter and simpler will rise here. I could be wrong but sadly I doubt it'll end up as impressive as what we see in the renders.

I actually think curvy walls instead of zig zag ones would look really good but that probably wouldn't be cheaper.

Shoot, that's infrastructure project cost overage territory.

In your experience when those initial high cost projections come in, how much of the original design/intentions tend to change to compensate for the overages?
