The last couple of weeks have been all about breaking up and removing the concrete from the ramp and the asphalt on the parking lot for the 'Phase 1' boundary (which includes both highrises and the civic plaza). Today they have started work on actually digging the hole at the location of the first tower. I don't have pics (sorry) but I can tell you they have a LONG way to go to get the kind of hole they need for this development.

563 units in one building - wow. That would make it the largest tower in the region by # of units by over 60%, taking over from (I believe) Surrey's Infinity Tower.

Too bad there is no rental units or hotel on the bottom floors. However, the spectacle of these two giants will be awesome. Also, I'm so looking forward for the Skytrain station - plaza integration!

By the way, we really need both of these towers to be illustrated in the site's diagram section

Haven't you guys noticed that the newer developments with a mall or multi-storeyed retail at the podiums are all sold out before they are built?! Developers downtown do take note!

Eg. Marine Gateway, Brentwood, Sovereign, etc.

I hope that the report about the rental units is correct.

As for the developments selling out before being built, that's not news, that's the standard practice.

I highly doubt the second tower will sell-out in one day again... That'd be really crazy otherwise!

What I was saying is, that it's common for residential developments to be sold out before they start construction.

For this 2nd tower though, I wouldn't be surprised if it was sold within the first week.

Not really. Rolston, the Mark, Maddox, Hotel Georgia, Trump, Central and many other developments were not sold out even after they began construction. Many are still selling even after completion. However, condos with large scale retail podiums get sold out very quick. That says a lot about such developments.

Vin: Sorry, I meant to say that it's common, not that every development accomplished it.

As for the model, I can't wait to see it become reality.

It would appear that digging for Tower 1 has begun:

the mall is well situated for the area, lots of families etc. it just has lacked any real draw

i imagine it could suck a lot of shoppers away from metrotown if it gets the retailers

That advertisement you posted is quite surprising because they have said everywhere else (including their official redevelopment proposal as jb1969 pointed out) that it would be exactly the same as tower one with rental on the first 30 or so floors and strata above that. The plans even call for two separate entrances/lobbies/parking/elevators just like tower one.

Also, Brentwoodblog said that digging for tower one has started, but from what I can see, they are digging both holes simultaneously.

I am still anxiously awaiting any more info on the plan to include a movie theatre in the civic plaza portion of the development.
