I always hoped that Radisson would build a second tower accross the street in the church-owned parking lot. Now that City Creek is finished, perhaps the church will turn it's development attention to that block.

Thanks, T-Mac!

I like that little red building behind the La Porte project. A little gem that i never noticed before. Does anybody know the history of that building?

I personally wouldn't want to see a skybridge over S. Temple in order to connect the two buildings. I do like Stenars idea of a skinny tall tower being built next to the Radison. Has this been brought up before, if no why not? I think the only issue would be the need for additional convention space in the hotel, that could be accomplished on the Fidelity corner I quess. hmmm

I wouldn't mind a hotel next to the Radison... It's not going to cut it as far as convention space goes though. Even if you tore down fidelity. It would take 5 floors to get the same amount of convention space that the tents that are currently set up provide.. The LDS property isn't going to be a parking lot forever... We definitely need enough space to take the place of a good 1/3erd of a block that is currently used... The shilo inn location has more land then west of the Radison... And people complain about that not having enough space

How about building a hotel tower next to the Radison and more convention space where RWP is... I definitely think the empty Radison lot would be a better hotel location then RWP... But RWP might be a good spot for more convention space... Is there any reason they have to be in the same location?

The goal, if I'm not mistaken, behind the convention hotel is two fold.

One; to provide a hotel with 1000+ rooms that has a direct connection

Two; to provide additional convention space for the Salt Palace, while also providing convention space that can be used, seperate from the Salt Palace. So the hotel can host conventions within it's own walls for groups staying at the hotel.

As an example; Lets say the Grand America were directly connected to the Salt Palace (obviously not in it's current location) The Grand America has convention space within its own walls and can host self contained conventions. Being connected to the Salt Palace it could also be an extension of available Salt Palace space.

So yes they sort of do need to be in the same location.

Why not both, a new tower skinny sleek tower for the Radison, maybe 20-25 stories tall, with parking on the first few levels, and a convention hotel on the RWP site?

Thanks for finding the story about Floral Street; it was an interesting read.

On a different subject, I really hope that the SL County Council makes a decision about the DA Building and its funding. The permit is ready to go and they could start construction immediately. It's actually been ready to go for about a month. It is not on their agenda to discuss at today's meeting but they're going to talk about a study analyizing convention business.

My brother-in-law used to be the sales and marketing director at Radisson until a few months ago, when he got a better job. I told him my idea last night and he told me he brought that up to the Radisson company several times, but they weren't interested, which both he and I thought was very dumb on their part.

The space next to Radisson, including the Fidelity site, is approximately the same size as the grand ballroom at the Grand America. So, if you had 3 floors of convention space, that would be adequate for the Radisson.

I used to work in the marketing dept at the Grand and most single meetings there never used more space than the grand ballroom, but other groups were there using other space adjacent to the ballroom, which if the Radisson had 3 floors of meeting space, ought to adequately supply meeting space.

I'm still exceedingly bummed the old design of this building was scrapped in favor of this.

August 8th planning commission

101 South 200 East
Office Building.

They are going to be asking for a request from the planning commission for approval of the parking garage along street frontage in the D-1 downtown CBD district.

I think the building looks nice, but would be better looking if it were taller. I hate how so much of the lot is taken up by a parking structure. I'd like to see more street interaction, and heck, maybe even another building on top of the parking structure with street frontage. This parking structure I feel will really short change us on what could be a very utilized corner of the city.

I reccommend contacting the planning commission and voicing your opinion. I already have contacted them. the more people voicing thier opinions the better.

That is a lot of parking for the building.

I really hope that the planning commission says no to the parking as it sits.

I think they should put the parking in a garage with the building on top of it for the corner. It would possibly add another 50' to 60' to the buildings height. It would also provide more room for future developments around the building.

I think the parking would be ok if the put small retail in front of it so that you cant really see it
