Yes, that hole makes me flash on the Athabasca Oil Sands for scale. However, this is the long, necessary, foundation-building part. It can generate mild impatience.
Once the building starts to go up, there wil be more and more excitiement as this fantastic addition to the skyline takes shape and is finally topped off !!

I never measured it, but there was a project in Montreal (late 80's) in which the excavation (using explosives in bedrock) was deeper than the building was tall. The project (at Guy and Sainte Catherine) included parking for an adjacent older building (Le Faubourg). The building is ~12 stories.

Don't post much here but have been a member for years. Need to ask the question, what do they do with the massive amounts of material excavated from large construction sites such as this?

Depending on the classification of the soil it can go for marine dumping, or to a variety of dump sites that need to increase there height. Soil that is contaminated typically goes the furthest. Example of contamination is iron arsenic etc. These are naturally found in the soil but do create disposal issues. SO they go as far as chilliwack or mission.

Surrey Delta are the home to dump sites also some of the different cities take the spoils depending on classification for improvements to dykes
