-4C and cloudy in Moncton at 11 AM, going up t0 -1C this afternoon.

Still no storms on the horizon (not that I am complaining, but, my joungest son is upset at the lack of snow cover on the ground).

High yesterday was 0.5. The low last night was -1.5. Currently it's -0.2 and the forecast high for today is 1.0 under mostly cloudy skies. It's bright out and no snow. All in all it's pretty much normal/nice though overnight lows are warmer than normal which seems to be the trend no matter the time of year.

It's 0.2 degrees, first time above freezing in 10 days, which is the longest streak since February 2021, when we had 16 consecutive days below freezing.

On Friday evening, we got 8cm of beautiful fluffy snow, and it was actually nice to go out and shovel snow for the first time in a long time. We're getting to be like Americans, there were tons of cars and transport trucks in the ditch, many people forget how to drive in the snow.

I see in your second pic that the banana palms there still haven’t had their leaves die back. That means there has yet to be a hard freeze there. (Banana leaves go limp at 2 degrees, get haggard at 0 degrees, and fully die back at -2 degrees)

That may change later this week though.

Had some snow flurries in my area of Japan over the last few days with lows around -2 and highs around 4 to 6. Could be the coldest week of the winter here.

I think we've had two nights that went below zero, but not for very long. Next weekend will probably do in the banana plants for the season.

We got another light dusting of snow yesterday - overall we've gotten about 12 cm's over the last 6 days. About 5-10cm around the GTA of snow pack, depending on where you are.

A pretty sever arctic blast is on the horizon for much of central and eastern North America. Look out for around the 19th - 26th. We could see -20 lows in Southern Ontario & Quebec, an daytime highs as low as -14. The last time Toronto hit -20 was in February of 2023. Last time we've had a cold snap that looks to last as long and be as cold as this upcoming one was between the 20th - 29th of January 2022.

As for today...uneventful and seasonal, currently -2 with some light flurries, going up to 0.

It snowed all day today in Ottawa-Gatineau but up until this morning we didn't have that much snow with grass fully exposed next to buildings and on roadway medians.

Interesting how the Rideau Canal is now open, as it's probably quite rare to have skating there when there is almost no snow along the parkways on either side of it.

Was supposed to have a backyard Christmas party a few weekends ago when it was 5 above. But whole family got sick. Had to postpone until yesterday. It was about -1 with some sun and pretty calm so good enough to stay outside for a couple hours comfortably. Of course, it happened to snow Friday overnight so had to clear my deck with the shovel. On a related note, got to go tobogganing for the first time this winter on Saturday in peak conditions.

For the party I messaged all the parents and told them their kid should bring stretchy gloves with them so they can pick up stuff like candy and chocolate. Only 5 of 13 did so. Impossible to pick up the stuff with bulky gloves on.

I have a few pairs myself in different colours to match my coat or shoes and it sure is a lot easier to handle things instead of bulky gloves. I thought everyone would have them.

Light dusting of snow on the ground today, first day this winter with any appreciable snow depth, even though it's just a couple of cm.

Yesterday was the first day this January with a daily high below freezing (-0.2C). Longest stretch of above-freezing temperatures in January in history.

Currently cloudy with some sunny breaks and 0 degrees at just before noon. Highs near 0 this afternoon. Still not seeing any major snowfall events in the 10-day forecast.

+6 today , a few more days of above normal then a plunge on the weekend. but not to bad -26 forecast.

Nice night tonight so we are doing one of our winter night rides tonight. will be interesting as 4 moose were seen in the area last night.

Low of -9C (wind chill of -17) this morning.
