Let's hope for the return of Loblaws (or any of Loblaws' Stores) because we haven't had one since the original mall opened in '61, and moved out sometime in the late '70s or early '80s.

There's a couple of Loblaws stores in North/West Van, plus Superstore, No Frills, and Shoppers Drug Mart (and more brands) are all Loblaws..

Or do you mean at Brentwood itself?

I mean,.......there's a SaveOn Foods literally a block away,....not to mention the Whole Foods across the street for those not so economically inclined.

But oh wait, I forgot,...you actually have to cross the road to get to those, and maybe even get out of your pajamas or drive from one underground parking to another underground parking.....and we just can't be having that.

/s

I do agree with the sentiment that any one of these developments rising in the area really really could use a T&T store.

It's the one thing that's really sorely missing and lacking in the wider Brentwood area.

As that's a Loblaw's store, if they wanted to open here and there was a suitable unit, it would keep you and Diego happy. Not sure if it would meet VarBreStr18's requirements.

An Urban Fare here would be nice.

I work for the company and know that they do have plans to open another location in the lower mainland but a lot of focus right now is on the Save on Foods Prairie expansion in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

The company saw some considerable market share taken from the Madison Save-on when Whole Foods opened so I think they'd be cautious to open an Urban Fare in this area.

Does Holts or Nordstroms really need two Vancouver locations? Not really. And Saks is DOA as a brand.

The only reason I could think of is to carry clothes that appeal to locals rather than offshore tourists.

Jim Pattison is a cautious and pragmatic man, and I suppose it trickles down to how his businesses are conducted. Thanks for sharing!

Wholefoods has more health-related products, but Urban Fare, to me, is focusing more on premium or imported foodstuff. I think they would both work really well. Considering the huge number of people moving into the area, as well as people working in the offices buildings around, I think there is a ready-made market for both to do well.

Excited to see which area Urban Fare would choose to open up in the Lower Mainland: first time for it to venture outside the downtown Peninsula, so it really shows how far the suburbs have come along.

You'd be surprised the percentage of locals in the Brentwood or Metrotown areas are not necessarily those who live here long-term. There are definitely people here who don't settle for hoodies, Lulus and baseball caps.

I wish you are correct, but i rather doubt it. Whatever left of that 10 % retails are most likely smaller CRU and in less desirable locations. I look around and do not see any ground level CRU left which is big enough for a full size grocery store. Having said that it does not mean Shape cannot bring back some smaller grocery stores to fill those lesser spots. Personally I think Kin's farm market, Cob's bread are good fits. Btw there is some survey circulating about having a weed store at the ground level of T3. This really irk me because Shape considers a weed store into the retail mix, and yet fail to invite some healthier stores such as Kin's and Cob's bread back in.

The Olympic Village isn't on the downtown peninsula.

Perhaps outside the Downtown Core is a better term. Maybe this is my suburban perspective, but Olympic Village nowadays feels "downtown". Certainly once it's surrounded on all sides by Skytrain it will definitely be downtown.

Burnaby's plan is to have a government cannabis store in each of the town centres and then see if there's demand for more. The Edmonds location was shot down and I haven't heard any updates on the Metrotown location. This is the first I've heard about a Brentwood location, and nothing so far on a Lougheed location.

Edit: I just searched the City's website and in Feb they suggested the Brentwood location (Rez #20-37 (#2 - 4615 Lougheed Highway)) and an alternate Edmonds location (Rez #20-38 (7300 Market Crossing)).
Also apparently the Metrotown location at Old Orchard (Kingsway and Willingdon) is moving forward.

But please not smack right a the ground level of a high rise residential tower. Anywhere on Hastings street would be more appropriate.... still well within the precinct of North Burnaby.

Yes, the OV one slipped my mind, but it is still downtown. That was my point.

Exactly. I would also consider Broadway corridor under the core too, although it and OV are not meeting their potentials for urban core development.

With the rate the suburbs are growing, that may not be necessary
Brentwood mall and its surrounding areas are fast becoming very urban.
