This building has a freaking ton of glass!

The Burj is clearly a fantastic engineering achievement and Dubai should be very proud of this accomplishment. That said, I personally don't find the building to be all that attractive, but I can understand why some people do.

It's a really tall and a really nice building. People have this notion that because it's the world's tallest building that it is also the world's most beautiful. Clearly that is not the case (Taipei 101 is also ugly).

Dubai online article says 142,000 sq. meters of cladding.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that by that, but I think you are ruling out what I said too much.

I think people are just harsh towards burj dubai because of their architectural understanding. They seem to think that it is getting much more attention than deserved. As any world's tallest building it's going to get attention whether it deserves it architecturally or not. (I guess in a way this could be jealousy, but not especially a bad thing.)

I have a question.. this last stretch of floors seem to have a very small floor plate, is there more going to be added to them? If not, what are these floors meant to be used for?

I thought almost all of the actual floor space would be INSIDE the core. Because they didn't need a lot of space for elevators, stairs, utilities, etc., I got the impression most of the core was open. Someone please correct me if I am wrong or if you have more info.

No matter, these will be maybe a few thousand square feet.

For comparison, look at the top few floors of the Transamerica Pyramid, IIRC, the top floor is 1/3 office and 2/3 core

You know it wad David Milken who said that, eh?
Is he still in jail or did he get out lately?

Cannot wait to see the steel really starting to go up!

It was Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) in the movie "Wall Street" who said that. Michael Milken has been out of jail for a long time and said no such thing...though maybe he wishes he had.

No man - the quote from the movie was a takeoff from the Milken comment from before u were born prob.
Milken said something more simple such as - "greed is good."
It's a famous quote from Milken because he did eventually end up in jail.

here's the dope... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Gekko
Please let's not have an airplane interaction where the point goes far overhead. Thanks.

Anyway - back on topic - taken about 4 months for the last 26 meters. Something seems amiss , no?
I mean steel beam construction is just about a perfected science.
Were not talking state of the art concrete pumping or something here.
It's just steel, not some exotic carbon/titanium composite that I think they could/should be using.
Why so slow?

Did I say I love this building?? This modern masterpiece should become a modern wonder o the world.

Traditional steel would be much much faster (perhaps twice as fast, even) in construction than the modern reinforced concrete structures of today, am I right? Was anyone aware of a prolonged transfer time for the transport of different equipment or something along those lines?
