Second, the recently completed bypass of St. Albert, Ray Gibbon Drive. I drove it at rush hour and took me 20 minutes to go just a few kilometres. It's already way over capacity.

You know, the more time goes on, the more I'm starting to think selling the 407 was a good choice in retrospect.

The government paid off the construction with the sale. And the private consortium now pays for all the plowing, maintenance, and policing.. and they pay for widenings as needed as well.

The sale may have only netted $3 billion, but the government has probably saved far more over time through these things.

A key thing to remember is that a large portion of the 407 got built for "free" as a part of the sale. The 403-QEW and Markham Road - Brock Road were constructed by the winning bidder as a part of the contract. That alone is probably another billion in construction costs to be covered.

Love the 1A, use it most times I head into Banff. Much more relaxing.

Love those pics of Newfoundland.

Newfoundland seems to have such an interesting mix in highway design standards.

Here is a video from August, driving from Okanagan Falls to Penticton.

Everyone usually goes along the west side of Skaha Lake (highway 97) but the drive along the east side on Eastside Road is far more beautiful.

In mid summer it is one of the more "exotic" feeling drives in Canada IMO. Sandwiched between the surrounding hills covered in sage and Ponderosa Pines, and the beautiful Skaha Lake.

How do you guys take the videos?

I use my iPhone 6S to film and attach it and keep it stable using this holder. My lighting cord just reaches, so I can keep it charged while I film. I also put a large piece of black poster paper on the dash to keep the glare at a minimum. I have a can of glass cleaner on hand to wash off the bugs too. I prefer to film from inside my car, but I know that others film from outside. I might get a GoPro next year and do this too.

I use a black towel on my dash and it works fairly well for reducing glare. I like it because it is portable, I often capture the road when I travel, and packing a towel on a flight or in a rental car is pretty easy to do.

Also, I'm jealous of your trip. BC-3 in particular looks awesome.

I recently got a custom fit black dash mat for my car. Carpeted surface absorbs sunlight and reduces glare. Also helps keep your dash from cracking / drying out or losing colour from solar radiation. Goes on with Velcro tape, easy to vacuum clean.

I use a heavy duty suction cup mount for my DSLR to keep it secure on the windshield (inside).

I just got a GoPro Silver so I first tried mounting it inside (way too much glare, should get a mat) so instead I just mounted it via a strong suction cup mount to the roof of the car

PS, here are some recent models of the proposed highway 99 upgrades in Metro-Vancouver. These will be the interchanges book ending the proposed George Massey Tunnel replacement bridge.
