I saw something on the news about this a few weeks ago. It seemed like a puff piece, nothing really newsworthy. The jist of the story I saw was that WTC Utah had been formed, they meet in a small office, are building international business connections, and someday would like a building of their own. Nothing concrete.

I saw the report last week and they did say they were looking @ building a 25 story building within the next 2-3 years. They kept pointing the camera over at the Carl's Jr lot

It was the same day Mayor Becker appointed someone to his administration for economic development.

Film studio at State Fairpark?

An independent gaggle of Utah filmmakers is fishing for $50 million to erect 12 sound stages for a state-of-the-art studio - with dreams of adding $500 million worth of shops, condos and eateries - at the Utah State Fairpark.

kinda interesting, where did this come from.

LOL! That would be awesome!!!. ... I've heard that Walt Disney become a Mormon right before he died. ... Maybe the Disney corporation has some affinity for SLC because of this? lol ... one can only wish.

That would be a great attraction for convention goers though.

... That film studio lifestyle center sounds cool, but very shady.

There is definately a lot of interest in Utah coming from the film industry. Gov. Huntsman is very pro-film production for Utah and has done quite a bit to implement helpful legislation. We should see even more bills coming up, which will take Utah out of the 5 million dollar productions,(High School Musical) and put us into the larger feature film league. I think it's pretty safe to say Utah should move back into the top five film producing states within the next five to seven years.

While the St. George studios are a definite, and will become a major power, this particular proposal sounds like it's still in the 'air castle' stage.

I was Downtown today and decided to take a little side trip over to look at the exterior of One and Nine after seeing T-Mac's most recent pics. I can't tell you how happy it made me to see them using a brick which looks as if it were made back in the 1860's. So often on these newer projects, they try to emulate an older style, but get the brick all wrong. I would like to see them take even just a few of the spaces at Gateway and use this same style brick.

I too am pleased with the exterior treatment on these.

Maybe its just me, but I went by these the other day as well, and in person the building feels like it is built at 1/2 scale. It just seems that the floorplates are awfully short, like the ceiling were only 6' tall. I wasn;t inside, and obviously, per code they couldn't that short, but it looked odd from the street. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?

I think it would have been cool had the architects designed those sections with white stucco a little differently. Perhaps with glass and steel (modern) so as to make the building look like an older building that had new lofts added on top.

yeah that is going to look real good downtown. Really going to scrape the sky with this. Do you think this may put us in danger of a terrorist attack? Who cares... the architecture is stunning. The way it greets the street in a pedestrian friendly manner is awesome as well. Kudos to them! I'm so glad we're so forward thinking and developing in sustainable ways. Glad to know that we've learned from the past. YAY! ... Salt Lake's future is bright! ... I hope this project serves as a model to all that will follow.

I like these condos, but I like when they have "underground" parking on the first level, so that the actual first inhabitable level is lifted 10 or so feet and technically becomes the second story... for safety reasons. Especially in larger cities...
