It is weird. I was just in Tokyo for a week. (Impressive infrastructure, unimpressive architecture.) But something I like a lot is that there apartment and commercial buildings that are only accessible by what we would consider to be alleys. It leads to a lot of interesting spaces. It would be good to see more of that in Chicago, considering how relentless our grid can be. Wonderful, but relentless.

I am also with the mindset that sometimes these quirky, off the grid type developments make for a more interesting cityscape. These alleys-turned-pedestrian-paths would be nice to see, although they are far too functional in Chicago (parking, trash collection) for us to see a significant change in their usage.

If the surrounding remains a parking lot this will be tragic in my opinion. If the majority of the lot is parking make the building abut the street, no if ands or buts...................

There's plans to replace those lots with four big midrises already. The first is already built...

I love alley way types of stuff - in Istanbul and SE Asia they were great. I'm just afraid "Chicago" won't do anything interesting with it

Actually 2 mid rise, one high rise and some townhouses.

It was gonna be 4 mid rise but the pedestrian commercial strip through the center (old Mautene ct) proved to not be marketable. It's a shame it was a pretty cool idea.

Wow, if all this comes to fruition that Wendy's will be one of the most underutilized parcels in the area

I like it specifically because it converts a big-ish parking lot right over an el station into a building and a driveway with a little parking on the side. It's certainly weird, but I love the fact that we've gotten to the point that we're looking to densify even plots this odd.

The Parker turned out great. Hopefully one day Halsted will be lined in highrises from Lake to Jackson. It would be awesome to have the canyon effect driving up/down 94.
C'mon 1 s. Halsted...get approved.
