The crane is rising, not as high as 270 Park, but it won't really be long before we're saying how fast it rose up on the skyline...

Compared to 270 Park...

And I was correct, the installation of the cladding has begun, though still in protective covering. You can still see where the covering has come off.
I just want to mention that these aren't the actual final panels, they are test panels. So actual installation hasn't actually begun. Though samples of the cladding were tested off site, it's not unusual to test pieces on the building itself.

But actual facade installation could definitely start any day since the panel clips are already installed on the podium.

This building will be as tall as 270 Park as it stands now.

I just want to see the product with my own eyes. There are still some elements that they haven't placed, so we're still not getting the full picture. The framing around those windows aren't in place, but we get an idea of how the base comes together. The windows of the upper floors are of a different shape.

Oh no no, I understand/know that, but I'm saying that these still are not the final panels. Besides the fact that they dont have their terracotta extrusions, they dont have their bronze frames.

They aren't going to be installing the panels piece by piece. The right/final pieces will actually have the final materials already on the panels. I've seen renders of the building that are not publicly available (and may never be until maybe a few more months at which point they will not be of much use), but nothing has changed between the facade mockups and the final renders but for the color of the corner piece on the podium.

^ Yes, it's not complete, and some of it is still in covering.

What's also exciting is we are entering the phase where we can watch this baby rise on cam...

Oh man, I hope that is a protective layer over those window frames. White window frames will give this tower a whoooooole different look.

^ Yeah, it’s a protective covering. They’ve gotten a lot more windows up since the week or so I went by the site. Still some other elements they haven’t installed yet, but very exciting!

Façade Installation Begins For KPF’s 520 Fifth Avenue Supertall In Midtown, Manhattan

Quote:
Façade installation has begun on 520 Fifth Avenue, a rising 76-story residential supertall in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Rabina, which took over from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA in 2019, the 1,000-foot-tall skyscraper will yield 415,000 square feet with 98 condominium units, as well as commercial space on the lower floors and four cellar levels. WSP is the structural engineer, DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the façade consultant, and Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street, one block north of Bryant Park.

More levels of the reinforced concrete superstructure were formed since our last update in mid-July. Recent photographs show the climbing safety cocoon reaching further into the sky, and vertical construction should steadily progress throughout the rest of the year and into 2024.

The 1,000-foot-tall architectural height will make 520 Fifth Avenue the tallest residential building along Fifth Avenue upon completion, though it may relinquish this title if Extell’s nearby Diamond District development at 570 Fifth Avenue proceeds with its proposed 78-story hotel and residential scheme, which would reach a height of 1,101 feet. The alternate plan for this project is a 860-foot-tall, 47-story office skyscraper.

520 Fifth Avenue’s completion date is posted on the construction board for June 1, 2026.

It'll be some time before it's noticeable on the skyline, but it wouldn't shock me to see that happen come the winter. Compared to 270, it's just a baby.
