tbh I don't think it's that bad. Once the windows go in and it gets painted it will look ok. Ok not great, but oh well.

I believe that curve was added to accommodate the turning radius at that intersection for the LRT. Take a look at the LRT prelim plans. Queen get's a significant curve at King.

well at least we can be thankful for that - whether or not lrt actually goes through..

It looks alright, once they put in the windows and finishes on the concrete it'll be fine, aside fro the podium.

I guess we'll see in the coming weeks if the other height increase for the taller building is approved. Right? (I might've missed a post about it recently)

the real crime here is it's ground floor. It's going to be a bunch of blank walls, retaining walls, and parking spaces facing King St.

The curve was already there for right hand turns, doesn't have anything to do with LRT.

No, if you look at the LRT prelim plans you can see that the right hand turning radius is being expanded.

I think he means that the plan was always to have this space for a right hand turn lane regardless of LRT.

Yeah I mean there is a right hand turning radius already present. It just appears it will be made larger in the LRT preliminary plans, which makes me think the unusual podium shape was somehow influenced by that.

The reason that corner is so recessed from the street and curved at such an angle, and why the renderings show it so utterly blank, is because that corner of Queen & King is zoned to have a slip lane for turning, regardless of changes the LRT will bring.

A slip lane.

It's also my understanding that Corktown plaza development was also originally or maybe still is being made to push the development back from the road because of an old rule to widen John St...

This city is still so stuck in the 70s it hurts.

So some updates on this is that the crane for the hotel is officially coming down today. It's nearly half down already, and the glass has been installed on the horridly ugly townhomes facing south.

I'll get some pictures on my walk today in the afternoon unless someone sprints over to beat me.

Here they are. I also noticed that the top floor and first and second floors have plastic to block the wind which tells me interior work is beginning. I'm looking forward to windows being installed on the hotel and a paint job likely in the spring to make this eyesore look a bit less dust in the eye.

I hate how noone ever seems to incorporate the venting into the design - it's always an afterthought "oh looks like we forgot to factor that in - just punch it in here and there"

Not gonna lie I actually like those modern townhomes I just don't think they are in the right part of town. Everything else is horrendous. Thanks for all the updates Lachlan!
