It's a bit of a preview of the effect other projects like the Nova Centre, the new Roy, and the Maple will have downtown. There's going to be a big transformation as these buildings are completed. Halifax in 2017 is going to look quite different from the way it was in 2007.

Our baby is growing up (the downtown). We should feel like proud parents *insert dramatic weeping here*.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel that way

Is the added section essentially an extension to existing floor plates or is it built as a separate structure with its own elevators, etc?

Nicely done Halifax. I'd love to see this kind of work on some of Downtown Ottawa's towers.

It is a separate steel structure, tied into the original on each level. According to the plans, there were no new elevators added.

When you walk around the tower at night all of the lights are on for commissioning purposes and its possible to see that the tower now has large floor plates that flow seamlessly from the old tower to the new extension.

There were actually 2 new elevators added on the harbour side. The floor plates continue into the new section, but it is essentially another building with each floor being tied to one another with massive steel colums and cross bracing.. Very interesting how this was done but it did take up alot of floor area.

Unfortunately I don't see a project that would warrant this type of crane anytime too soon. I think it was a rental. I bet if the plans were still to start 22 Commerce as soon as TD was complete it would have stuck around.

I am just speculating as I really have no insider info, but take quite a bit of interest in cranes. That said, I recall reading an article about the TD crane and how it was rented. Ellis Don is doing the Roy and they did TD, so I could see them using Lead for the formwork again (as they are for Nova Centre too). Lifting Jib cranes are good for small spaces like the canyon on Granville. I don't think the area around the Roy has this same effect. I bet we will see the new to Halifax red and white Potain flat top crane Lead has in their yard for this. Or maybe another formworker has as the contract.

Like with 1592 Barrington, this one seems to be improving a lot as they add the finishing touches. I'm interested to see how the preserved facade on Granville Street looks when it's all done. You can see new copper roofing on the webcam. Hopefully it will have a functioning storefront and still look more or less like a functional building.
