So it would have poor street interaction. It would pretty much mean it would have to have a plaza. And in the new urbanism design standard, plazas equal bad. Of course I guess a building could have a podium that meets the street with a curved tower above it. That way the retail area would still meet the street leaving the tower free to be designed with whatever shape they wanted.
IDK - I think having a grand plaza around a round (actually, I prefer oblong) tower that is stacked with ground level retail would be really nice. It'd provide a break in the monotony of the street grid and create a unique space.

Ofcourse, I'd prefer that there just be one or two of these unique spaces, with the rest of downtown conforming to the grid (because they wouldn't be unique if everyone was doing it!).

I think the Lipstick Building in NYC is a good example of a curved building meeting the street in a very agreeable way. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...g%3B665%3B1000

A round tower can still go up higher than a rectangle. It is the FAR that determines the height on most sites not coverd by the CVC's...right? The Austonian has two curved sides and looks great. There are many round/partial round building all over the world that I like.

Nice. That's one hellava view. Something I'll never see, not just because I'll never live there, but also because I rarely rise before 9am.

That thunderstorm was really something. There's a lot of tree damage in spots around South Austin. One neighborhood about a mile from me has trees down all over the place. And the roof was blown off a portable at Bedicheck Middle School on William Cannon. We got about an inch of rain from it.

I was coming home from working late in Westlake and the amount of lightning was intense. The sky looked like a strobe light.

Oh good, the IBC Bank Plaza and 7th & Rio Grande will be visible there. I wasn't sure if IBC Bank Plaza would be blocked by 360 or not. And I gotta say, the US Courthouse really has added something unique to the skyline. There's just nothing else like it.

This is from the roof of the Embassy Suites in downtown, but I'm thinking the Hyatt garage right next to it should have similiar views. I'm looking forward to seeing that view. I'm thinking it may be far enough east to be able to see the Capitol dome down Congress. Hopefully.

I know. This photo was taken from the roof of the Embassy Suites. The new Hyatt garage is across the street to the north of the Embassy Suites, and slightly to the left of where they were standing. So I'm not sure if the Capitol would be visible from the garage. The Austonian might actually block it.
