Happy Craft Brewing:

Photo from Retail Talk & Share

Given the peculiar name of this enterprise, and the curious pagoda like shape of the "H" on the logo, I wonder if this is an Asian owned business. Nothing wrong with this of course, and Japanese and Korean beers are quite good. Does anyone know if this is the case?

From MLA Greg Turner's FB page:

Well , after the opening of the Tide & Boar Brewing and the unveiling of the Happy Artisan Tap Room in downtown Moncton last week ; I’m very excited to see that the new temporary home of Service New Brunswick is set to open at 766 Main Street . I would like to especially knowledge the dedication and vision of Minister Mary Wilson and her department in investing for the future in Downtown Moncton . As wonderful as it will be to have their Offices located directly on Main Street ( in the former BDC location ) , this is a temporary move as they and Ashford Properties teamed up to bring a totally new customer experience to Service NB in Assomption Place . They will be open daily 9-5 and Saturday from 9-12 .

So, a new "temporary" home for SNB, right on Main Street. The plan apparently is to have a "totally new customer experience" back in Assumption Place later on. I wonder what this means? Is this just a refurbishment of their current space, or are they planning something more impressive. There is that construction fencing on Westmorland right next door, and across from Gusto. I wonder if an expansion is in the plans, with a real street front presence on Westmorland Street? That would indeed be very nice.

Anyone with any additional info???

Heard some scuttlebutt off and on the past few weeks about them temporarily moving. You might wonder, as I did, why this great news was kept far more secret than any government bad news. It's baffling, but I suppose par for the course for SNB where even the simplest transaction can mean an hour or more of frustration even in pre-covid times, multiple hours of frustration sometimes nowadays. Oh well, I will look forward to the new and improved SNB and hope the "improved" part pertains to more than just the physical building and extends to the "service" part of their name.

What makes no sense is during the pandemic they have a multi hour long lineup forced to wait outside, are they now going to have it running down Main St.? It's ridiculous to offer such a terrible level of service in 2021, the improved part should be that they are moving the majority of their services online and whatever else they keep has a much larger automation component.

There are some good photos on Facebook. I might port a couple of those over to here once I get home from work.

The evening menu will be pub food. The lunch menu will be a clone of Duo Cafe. This has not started yet.
Duo Cafe is now open at Tide & Boar Brewing on West Main Street for lunchtime dining. Evening dining will be Tide & Boars pub menu.

This small infill apartment building on the SE corner of Gordon & Cameron is now topping out at four storeys.

It's a small apartment building, but it will have an outsized impact on the neighbourhood in that it complements other apartment buildings (either existing or under construction) very well, and helps a lot in building overall density in the area.

Once the other two apartment buildings under construction on Weldon get a little taller, I'll take a few photos to show their impact on the neighbourhood too. The other two buildings will both be six storeys tall.

The building is decent, but it could do without that awful white siding. It looks like they fired the designer, but told him he had to finish the project first before he could leave.

I noticed a couple of men in hard hats surveying the area this morning.

I hear that they plan on building 2 10 story buildings on this property.

That would be tremendous. Is your source reliable or is this simply a rumour?

I would say it's pretty reliable but not a solid 100%. Guess we will soon find out!

That would be fantastic! And hopefully it will spur more development in this area of downtown. Looking at the map you see that enormous sea of asphalt across from Heritage Court. What a waste of prime land.

I know that parking is required for their tenants but wouldn't it be great if a structure could be built and the rest of the property be developed! I'm sure the workers there would appreciate inside parking, especially in the winter time.

And any development here would be literally feet away from the Avenir Center, the skating oval plaza, Hyatt/Carrabbas etc.

I love my mid-town mid-century modern house a lot, but I have to admit that I were in my late 60's+ and looking to downsize and simplify my life, I'd definitely look at an apartment downtown. I have an emotional attachment to Moncton.

That said, I'm also thinking of Portugal so whatever.

I believe the evening menu is unique to the brewery, most notably a selection of gourmet pizzas which was a previous passion project of the owner when he was doing "pop up" pizza events.

I'm sure they will be sharing a couple items & ingredients though between the 2 locations. I'm really curious how busy the morning café will be in that location. You have a ton of traffic there and there's 6-8 parking spots but its a tough market to crack. Likely they are thinking of the future with fresh customers coming in from the Tannery area.

From what I can tell they are building out a fence this morning. I work very close by so should be able to provide any interesting developments that come up.

I checked them out yesterday around 1:30 and there was quite a good lunch crowd there. I noticed a few patrons there this morning as I drove by on my way to work. Maybe there's pent-up demand since there's nothing like it in the entire old west end. Looks like another hit for the T&B empire!

I drove by there this evening on the way home from work, and they were drilling soil samples. There is something definitely afoot here.

If Mattyyy is correct, and Lafford plans on twin 10 storey buildings on the site, then this will make a huge difference in the downtown skyline of the city, especially as seen from the west. The downtown has always been linear, but this will give the downtown some depth too, extending southward from Heritage Place to Assumption Blvd.

They have replaced the mini tower crane being used for this project on Weldon Street with a full tower crane:

As you can see, they are currently working on the fourth floor. Two more to go!
