I know nothing about the Ponce project but it seems like a win win in my mind. Underground parking, affordable grocer, office and residential. Cleans up a blighted block. Sounds like a good idea. Confused as to why it only passed 4-3 when a lot of these other developments offering significantly less long term potential pass by much larger margins by the Fulton Board. I agree with the city. Fulton needs more written and stringent requirements for granting tax abatements than just the whimsical opinions of 8 people on a board.

What is happening on the across the other street from Krispy Kreme (Argonne)? There has been fencing up around the parking lot of the Hospital building for at least a couple weeks now.

I saw somewhere else that it's being turned into a parking lot. Huge parts of that Grady lot are underutilized and create dead spaces for blocks.

Gradys outpatient center also filed for renovations earlier on.

Great! Finally one of these developments is able to deliver a new grocery option. And I love the scale of the development as well.

Although construction may not be imminent, seeing the demolition is much better than seeing weeds grow in an around those abandoned buildings.

Like I said in an earlier post, I feel like this will move forward as planned. There is, what you call, underlying subliminal euphoria percolating below the surface that will emerge from people once things settle down and the vast majority of people feel comfortable again.

Also, Atlanta's status as an emerging Tech Hub hasn't gone anywhere.

I'm pleased this is happening, but I have to say I really liked the dry cleaners that was there (long ago!). I hope at least part of the new development caters to the booming residential population of the surrounding blocks.

It's going to be weird walking down this street and seeing other people.

While I was looking at the Midtown development map yesterday, I noticed that they listed 126 Renaissance as a hotel. It appears their request to switch was granted. It's went from apartments to condos during early construction and now it's switched again. I'm interested to see what their retail option/s will be.

Mixed opinion on this. I'm glad more residential is going up but man Huff Rd traffic already sucks.

Anyone know what's going on at the Bank of America building at North & Peachtree? There was a tree removal notice until last week. All trees at the east entrance are marked with a big orange "X". There are 2 rows of 6 trees that line the entrance way. I think at least one of them has been dead for awhile, no green leaves during the summer. Maybe redoing the garage entrance and drop-off area, as it get's congested? Maybe a new outdoor space?

Cousins looks like it is legit starting and not just demo. Trees are marked along 8th that will be spared and lots of construction stuff is being stockpiled in the parking lot on 8th

Anything to give it a better street presence would be great.

DRC recap

Quote:
The DRC concluded 2020 with a presentation by Lord Aeck Sargent on proposed improvements to 1280 West, a 40-story condo tower on 16th Street between West Peachtree and Spring Street. The Homeowner’s Association seeks to update the post-modern building with an exterior “refresh” that includes modifying the building façades and roofing to accentuate the verticality of the tower and to address deferred maintenance items. The current scope is limited primarily to new painting and lighting among other minor updates to bring the circa 1989 building up to date with its neighbors.
DRC Recommendations
The DRC was supportive of the proposed enhancements. Its recommendations included:

Considering additional improvements that would benefit the street level facades and provide important upgrades to the pedestrian environment surrounding the property.
Making landscape and circulation improvements to create safer accessibility for pedestrians and vehicles. Emphasis on the Spring Street frontage focused on the need to create a continuous, consistent path for foot traffic and to ensure ADA accessibility. Midtown Alliance staff offered to facilitate a conversation with GDOT to explore the feasibility of moving the curb and eliminating the accel/decel lane. The design team was open to this feedback and plans to move ahead with initial permitting on the façade enhancements.

SCAD Atlanta buys two Midtown towers for significant campus expansion

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/2020/12/11/scad-buys-midtown-towers.html

Quote:
SCAD Atlanta is carrying out a significant expansion of its Midtown campus.

What they bought: SCAD recently paid just over $20 million for two adjacent office towers on West Peachtree Street, along with a 254-space parking deck. The deal closed Nov. 30, according to Fulton County property deeds.

Who got paid: SCAD bought the 1422 West Peachtree building, the parking deck, and most of the 1430 West Peachtree office condo tower. It paid $13.9 million for a tower owned by John Marshall Law School and the parking deck and about $6.8 million for the other tower owned by architecture firm Greenberg Farrow.

Where to? For now, John Marshall Law School still occupies the 1422 building, another three floors in 1430 West Peachtree and uses the adjacent parking deck. John Marshall Law School will need to relocate its campus to a new Atlanta building. That could happen in late 2021. Greenberg Farrow is in a similar spot. It maintains its global headquarters at 1430 West Peachtree and will relocate to another property in Midtown. The new locations for the law school and architecture firm should become clearer over the next several months.

I see that they have filed and received permits to do some sewer work on the site but I don't see any permit activity regarding the actual building.
