Tannery Court

I was reading our member's blog website "Urban Plans for Saint John and Beyond". This photo horrified me....

The lack of privacy, noise transfer and cooking smells will likely be a real problem for those living in this inner corner as shown in the photo. What were the architects thinking?

The most negative force against growth and prosperity in Saint John, is small minds and a defeatist mentality

Perhaps it could be widened to six lanes near the Rothesay Avenue interchange. Otherwise, it's probably OK.

I believe the reason the highway in NS is three lanes leaving Halifax is because it was the original road they built and at the time, was two lanes with on and off passing lanes for some distance - when they added the other in bound route to make it a seperated four-lane, I believe they simply turned the old route into a three-lane outbound. I may be mistaken. As far as the widening goes, I would assume that most of the issue on the province traffic counts and why they are widenning it is through traffic. This is the main route to the US from NS and the "Gateway" plans to make it the tranportation corridor for US to Halifax port warrants a need to accomodate an increase in the through traffic. All the talk about sprawl is valid, but I really think it is an overall volume issue and geographically, the city is limited in terms of re-routing through traffic with an alternative route versus simply widening the existing one. When it gets to the point where they talk about 8-lanes...then you should start protesting! LOL

From CHSJ Country 94's News Site....

'A long time west side business is getting a face-lift.

Loblaws, the company that owns Superstore, is changing it's Lancaster Mall store to a No Frills location.

It is one of six stores in Atlantic Canada that is changing their logo. In an e-mail, a company spokes-person says expanding the nofrills model in this market allows them to compete more effectively.

No where in the release does it talk about whether this news affects the stores current staff numbers but our news-room was at the store today and many employee's were visibly shaken up.

We asked several for comment but none were willing to speak with our news-room.

The West Side Superstore will take on it's new look in the fall as will four stores in Nova Scotia and one in Newfoundland.'

Well, it looks like Saint John will no longer be the only N.B. city with 3 SuperStore locations anymore.

Unless Loblaws might be considering a new SuperStore elsewhere in the West Side.

Well, depending on how you cut it, there are three Superstores in Moncton (metro) as well.............two in Moncton & one in Riverview.

If we're going to get picky, Riverview is, like you said, Metro Moncton. We can certainly count the number of Superstores in "Metro Saint John", if you'd like.

It will be Interesting to see how this works out on the west side, can't be any worse than the current superstore there, I was so glad when the New Sobeys opened up, The Lancaser mall superstore appears to always dead, they never have enough stock of sale items which out of fustration I typically go to sobeys west now, and when I'm uptown etc, I'll swing into the Rothesay Ave superstore.

I see this as the eqivilant to Sobey's "Price Chopper"/Foodland Brands

Also interesting to note that "No Frills" stores are branded under Maxi in Quebec...more info on Wiki

From what I heard, when the Superstore is rebranded as No Frills, they will be cutting back and eliminating produce, deli and perhaps other areas. As well, there may be major staff reductions. The employees aren't allowed to discuss this at all, and it's all being very hush-hush.

We'll have to see how this goes over with their employee union.

Looks like they already converted the Shediac Save-Easy. Anyone know if they got rid of anything over there?

Judging from the Shediac location, it sounds like they're trying to compete against Shoppers Drug Marts.

I just picked up four court side season tickets for the wife and parents!! They only have a couple dozen sold so far but hopefully picks up as word gets out. Personally I am very excited for action to start.

They told me that the schedule will be out in August and games start with Pre-season in December.

I own a car and use it.

That doesn't mean I think policies that make driving everywhere easier are good.

I think that debating the merits of any major public infrastrucutre is a positive thing for citizens to do. If people are concerned about the consequences of highway policy they should be able to state this without the argument being dismissed simply because there are other problems in Saint John.

I am concerned about the effectiveness of the 6 lane idea in that the bottle necks seem to be near exits more than on the crusing lanes.

I happened to be driving the lower cover loop this morning and noticed that the Harboufront Condo's site was VERY busy this morning. That is going to be a very large development!

Looks like they are hiring for the opening of Cold Stone Creamery on McAllister Drive. I just got back from PEI today and was able to try it in Summerside. Not cheap but FANTASTIC stuff....

Cool.
"And then, I couldn’t even get a small, because there sizes are actually Like It, Love It, and Gotta Have It! What kind of crack-head terminology is that? “Hey, what size you want, man?” “I don’t know, man. I just gotta have it. Put some ice cream in a cup. I’m tweaking, I’m tweaking, I’m tweaking."

I wonder if this will be a Tim's/Coldstone combo, or a stand alone place.

Tidal Energy Project

Just got an alert that said Irving is giving up on the tidal energy project. Wondering exactly what is going to be left of this "energy hub" if the only project left is the refurbishment of Lepreau. Think the folks at the top should have maybe kept their "energy hub" plans on the down low unless they were 100% sure it was going to happen...unless they plan on having everyone in Saint John take turns peddling bikes linked to a giant battery...anyone have an update on that project?

The port is involved with getting wind turbines to other parts of the province. We can cling to that.

The Tim's on McAllister Drive is currently closed for renovations, i'm guessing it will be in there.

There is a sign up for Cold Stone at the Tim's on McAllister.
