The latest updates for those four projects would be in the dedicated threads for each of of them.

It used to be listed on the Emerging Projects page, but all it ever said was:

IBC is looking at developing this site on W. 6th street at Nueces as a hotel.
The last (actually the only) rendering I ever saw was on Michael Hsu's website.

It was called Living Tower

After revisiting this thread, I re-realized how much fun Tech House brought to this forum.

I've noticed over the past two days that the city has started dropping the file attachments on building permits. I hope it's just a temporary glitch because that is where we get the first significant info about a lot of projects including elevations.

Have you contacted them about it?

Not sure where to post this, but there is significant activity/construction going on at the new cold air/water plant between the Gables and the railroad tracks along Electric Drive.

I have always hoped that once that thing got built that it might allow the state garage at 3rd and Nueces to change function. I have no info/insight into that other than I wish that is what would happen. Also construction of this cold air station might also preclude the long awaited underpass under the railroad up to 3rd Street.

And based on the replies by the other council members, CodeNext is officially dead.

I can't recommend this post enough, not least because we get some callout in the first few grafs, and not least because the title is a riff on a Raymond Carver book of short stories (SO good if your a former English major).

https://austin.towers.net/what-we-ta...ers-in-austin/

This seems like a corner of a much larger argument that's going on in the city -- an Austin identity crisis that's hitting one of its periodic boiling points. You can see this everywhere, in all of our conversations. CodeNext was just a casualty of some of these same conflicts, but the PSV discussion also encompassed it. Some of it is about spending money but a lot of it is about bigness, how big Austin was and now is, what that means for us, and what Austin should look like if its all grown up (should it even be called Austin?)

Anyhow, James's post is a nice momentary distillation of what's going around at the moment. Worth a read.

Good article. I just don't understand little comments like this thrown in:

By all accounts, women design buildings in the same manner as men, so I find it unfortunate that they are historically underrepresented in the built environment for reasons that appear unrelated to the practice of architecture.

Shhh. Saying we are different and that’s ok makes some people very mad on the interwebs.

I like Rambin's writing style. it's entertaining. I just wanted to know his motivation for that quip, and he provided it.
