^ Tragic to lose that, given how much has already been lost in the area.

I agree, but does anyone know if the building to the left and the lot to the right will both be redeveloped along with 1130?

According to replies on this twitter post: https://twitter.com/ChiBuildings/sta...43693860782510
it sounds like the lot to the right may be included in a future development, and the building to the left should remain unaffected. Also, reportedly the building is currently in bad shape according to other replies. This is, of course, just word from strangers on the internet, and I can not confirm the veracity of the statements.

This really surprised me, but it looks like Advocate IL Masonic is going to include construction of the bed tower in their current stage of construction.
Last I read, this stage was only going to include a westward expansion of the first few floors. Great news IMO.

Johnson wants recommendations to 'streamline' city's development approval process
Quote:
Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration has been put on a three-month clock to come up with solutions to streamline the city’s arduous regulatory process for real estate developments.

Johnson signed an executive order on Monday mandating city departments to report back to Deputy Mayor for Business & Neighborhood Development Kenya Merritt with “proposed changes to streamline processes and incentivize commercial and housing development.”
....
In a press release announcing the executive order, Johnson is quoted as saying the city’s current “processes are overly cumbersome and counterproductive for commercial and housing development.”

“We need more affordable housing, we need more small businesses, we need more economic activity, and we need good-paying union jobs to revitalize our city,” he said.

Easy solution... Get the goddamn alder people out of the zoning process/development. Alderman constantly delay projects by trying to cater to their NIMBY constituents.

100% this. Aldermanic prerogative needs to go the way of the dodo.

In related news, the mayor's ordinance to speed up the approval process for type 1 zoning changes has passed out of the Committee on Zoning. It will most surely pass City Council tomorrow: https://occprodstoragev1.blob.core.u...6b586274aa.pdf

This should save several months for small-scale developments. I know Steely Dan was excited about this ordinance
