Excellent sequence of shots Martin. These shots really show Montreal as big, tall, old and vibrant city.

The new wave of construction in downtown has completely changed its look and feel, while the lighting schemes on many of the buildings are making things look warmer.

This one really looks rad.

Too much to fap over in that seismic Montreal set. Now if you'll excuse me, I might as well polish my hardwood floor with all of the saliva I've just drooled all over it...

@jayadventures

Could very well be a small skyline (in a small city of 500,000) in its own right.

The Montreal set is spectacular. Easily Canada's most interesting urban tapestry. Those photos make me want to explore the streets for days...

No, there's a net at the end of the canal to keep the Asian carp fish out Cootes Paradise.

The national bank building would have been Ottawa's tallest until Claridge. And tied with Quebec's Guyart building for the city's tallest right now. Until they build that thing in St-Foy. Its taller than anything in Winnipeg and Hamilton as well.

How do you share pictures from Instagram? I'm seeing a lot more interesting stuff there than on Flickr these days but it's not a platform that allows for sharing, short of screencapping the photo or using scripts.

Not necessarily pictures of my city, but a few pictures of the area where I grew up; this is one town north from my hometown. You can see my town (kind of) on the top of the first photo. One thing I love about the area I grew up in is the rolling hills. The drive between the town in the photo and my hometown on a nice summer day is probably one of my favorite things to do

Which is that? Jacques Fontaine?

*****

A few stills from a drone video shared on FB.

Red arrow points to my house. Behind the Rooms is Rabbittown. Behind the Basilica is Georgestown. The border between them is the street running up between them, Bonaventure Avenue.

The rest...

A close-up of the Ecclesiastical District, including the most nonsensical crosswalk design possibly ever?

Georgestown (except the obviously upper class houses in Bannerman at the very bottom). Hipster central. It's probably the most gentrified neighbourhood in the city, easily 80%+ rid of its lower class.

The Loop, a skating trail in Bannerman Park. The surrounding area is one of the city's older wealthy neighbourhoods, probably the second best in the city traditionally, after Waterford Valley. The white patch on the hills in the background immediately above and just left of the Basilica is Shea Heights. Former shanty town, still an infamous neighbourhood. The poorest people in the city have the best view.

That's actually Bay L'Argent

Dang, your pictures are nice. Taken at just the right time of year, too. Grass is still green, but leaves on the trees are either in full autumn colours or completely gone. It's the weird in the middle of the seasons that, for some reason, always reminds me of England.

I must've ended up in Bay L'Argent at some point but I don't recall it looking like that. This summer I'm going to pop out to see Nan and I'm definitely taking the turn to visit everything out so far as Grand le Pierre. I'd love to get to Hermitage too. But we'll see.

****

I wish he'd flown a little bit over the harbour, even just for one screen grab to show the distance from the Basilica to the water is actually 2-3 times what it looks. From those pics, it's like it's only a couple of (our size) of blocks.

But there's (by our standards) quite a bit, and the most important bit, lol:

^It's a good visit; the northern Burin Peninsula is a thing of beauty. They're newer towns, so they're very typical 1980s Canadian architecture, minus some older homes, but the true beauty lies in the topography of the area. Those hills hugging the coast are something.

Hermitage though might be a stretch. It's a long boat ride, or an even longer car ride.
