Fantasy map I made of what I would like to see for the VIA rail network. Turbo is 320km/h, Express 160-200km/h. AMT and GO networks highlighted as well.

An easy solution would be to have gates that come up and down instead of door sliding sideway, I guess ?

Your "Waterloo" stop needs to be changed to "Kitchener".

It's the Waterloo region.

The advertising potential alone for those doors/barriers should make them a no brainer. Thousands of eyeballs, all facing forward, waiting for the doors to open, all taking in the posters/videos/etc on the walls on either side of the doors whether they want to or not. I'm amazed that hasn't been realized by now. (Or maybe it has been realized and the idea squashed for some reason)

Great map!
I think we could have three types of passenger service:

-Turbo: as you show in your map, these trains run at high speeds between large centres (The Corridor, NYC-Montreal/Toronto, Calgary-Edmonton, Vancouver-Seattle).
-Express: limited-stop service between secondary centres akin to the limited-stop VIA trains today.
-Regional/Local: milk-run trains to suburban areas (GO and AMT would fall into this category) and to smaller towns (I think your London-Hamilton line could be reclassified as local service and stop in towns like Paris and Ingersoll). No need for big trains or infrastructure here - 300-person DMUs with one conductor on existing rail is all you need.

local service would still be provided, this was meant to be more of a "higher level" map going for easy graphics rather than showing every service detail.

Both Turbo and express lines would run local lines still with multiple stops. I was sort of thinking hourly frequencies on "express" services, with bi hourly local service on those lines. Turbo mainline would have to mainly run on a new corridor to allow for those new speeds, so it would bypass most towns. Even then, 30 minute Turbo services comboed with hourly local services following the existing VIA line and going through Cornwall would likely work.

They just stick it on the wall on the other side of the track now.

They still do that here. No advertising on the doors/wall between the platform and the tracks. Since the doors and walls are clear, you can still see the advertising on the wall on the other side of the track perfectly clearly.

You'd have to have multiple sets of gates that slide up and down, some over lapping? don't think it's possible.

Duh *slaps forehead* Yeah that makes sense. (In my defense, I can count the number of times I've ridden a subway on one hand; basically once or twice each for the subways in Montreal, Toronto, DC and Paris. )

The Mascouche commuter rail line begins service in two days. Here's a pic I took minutes ago at Mount Royal station.

Great looking trains! I'm glad this has finally got competed. Is there anything else in the Montreal transit pipeline coming up soon?

Not much official, but plans for a BRT on Pie-IX Blvd (it'll happen eventually) and for a light rail system on the new Champlain Bridge. Plus the Blue Line extension but I doubt it'll happen before 2020 lol.

Wow talk about bare-bones stations and I thought ours were bad. I hope there's more in the distance but offhand it looks like there's but a single shelter for the entire platform, if that's even a shelter could just be a covered stairwell to transfer tracks.

I take the train at that station everyday, the infrastructures are sufficient, two shelters with benches inside and benches on the platform also.

By the way, I took that picture of the station lol
