Kind of funny how comparatively gargantuan the backyards of those duplexes across the street are. Could this be Ottawa's answer to Calgary's uni-driveways and Montreal's tempo bazaars?

That last one is bizarre. A house with no front door. The entrance is the garage. How can the ‘front’ be considered the other side when this is directly on the street? If it were an alley that would be one thing but this is awful.

Some interesting architecture here.

First one is in Brampton. Backs onto the Credit River though. All that space and surrounding beauty and that's what some architect came up with.

Second one in Nipigon. Loco101 posted about the Canadian Tire up there in the retail thread. When I clicked on the link, I turned it around and saw this across the street. At first it looks like there's a privacy wall but upon closer look it turns out it's part of the house.

Yeah, this is odd with a street instead of a rear alley . Park facing houses are pretty. I guess That's why they sell for premium. They are impractical for delivery and the security of not having to worry about your child being hit by a car is replaced by the activities in a public park namely some off leash dog knocking over your kid.

More clocks. This one in Mississauga. I'm actually glad this tower is here. It adds a slight splash to this otherwise soulless big box centre. Though, I don't think anyone knows there's an actual clock in there let alone actually relied on it to tell the time. The architecture equivalent of fake airflow grills on cars.

but I did like Big Hill Springs PP, and Iron Horse park looked like fun for kids or model rail enthusiasts

That house in Nipigon is interesting. There's no shortage of rock in that area. In much of Northern Ontario you'll find the odd house where rock like that is used. They didn't go to a store and buy it.

And just for fun:

Most people who don't live in Nipigon or in Thunder Bay District mispronounce the name of the town. It's pronounced NIPEGIN not NIPEGONE.

I like that! Although the "g" in gin is pronounced the same way as in the word "gun" but still works well as a drink.

I've got the perfect place to enjoy that drink on the rocks. Just give me some time to look through my photos from last Summer.

I had an incredibly hard time trying to find a drink when I spent 2 nights in Nipigon for work! The LCBO closed very early and I couldn’t seem to find anything that resembled a bar. Maybe the locals do something else. We ended up having a meal with a few drinks at what looked like a house that had a massive menu yet only a few things available. It was pretty tasty though.

EDIT: now that I’m looking on google maps it’s definitely the Chinese restaurant that doubles as a bar!

My mom has another example of that in the town she comes from. People in Hastings County know to pronounce Madoc as MAYdoc, rather than the MAD-doc I hear everywhere else

In Ottawa we have a local architectural firm called Roderick Lahey Architecture that specializes in 23-28 story charcoal brick/white trim monstrosities like this. Local developers are in love with this firm and there are copy paste towers like this going up all over the city...more than 50 buildings from the same firm that look just like this are in the pipeline.
Edit: Neuf Architects is co-conspirator in the plot to make Ottawa a sea of 23-28 story charcoal brick/white trim buildings.
