Anyone understand their rationale for running the new streetcars on Bathurst before any of the busier routes like King or Queen or...any of the others that aren't Bathurst?

trying to run all of Queens Quay service as Flexitys, first I believe. Thus the 509, 510, 511 being the first to upgrade. I think its because they worry about streetcars breaking down in the tunnel by Union, its really difficult to get them out. ALRVs rarely run on the corridor as well due to that, as they are even more difficult and often need to be physically pushed up the slope leaving the tunnel. No idea why Dundas comes after that though. probably has something to do with track conditions, I'm guessing that St. Clair is last on the list as the entire line is recently rebuilt and puts little wear and tear on the streetcars using them, allowing their lives to be stretched as long as possible.

Perfect, thanks. Good to see the lines that affect me the most are the first (well second and third) to get the new ones!

I'm probably alone on this, but that thing is ugly as hell and just seems completely unnecessary to me. Years ago when they first announced it, I thought it was going to cover the WHOLE trainshed. Just seems like a massive waste of money to put a chunk of glass over the middle of it.

I entirely agree. That's not a trainshed, at all. Why do it at all if you're not going to cover the entire platform? It makes no sense - and it looks pretty silly, too.

Wifi and cell coverage could be coming to Edmonton LRT stations and tunnels. About time!

I think it looks excellent, personally, and the green roof will look even better.

Well I agree it's surprising it's not covering a greater area. I didn't expect it to cover the whole 300m+ lenth of a 12 car GO train, but it looks like it only stretches the length of 2-3 cars. Not sure I'd call it ugly as what's there is very nice, but it does seem a bit odd...

The original roof was apparently the last of its kind and historically valuable as an example of its design principles. So they kept a modified version of the old roof instead of scaled down versions of the central section.

I believe it's only meant to mirror Unions Great Hall in length. Calling it ugly is somewhat absurd because it can only really be viewed from the platforms or nearby towers. From those platforms it does an incredible job of letting light into a space that almost always felt like nighttime even in the middle of the day. It's also great that they didn't do the entire length and kept 2/3rds of the old steel trusses. Maintaining the heritage while updating the experience travelers and commuters. Natural sunlight is a beautiful thing.

Bus transitways are sort of depressing, but they're definitely efficient.

So I was thinking of the Canadian cities that have either subway or light rail or something of the like, and I know of Toronto/GTA, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton.

I now see that Hamilton is building an LRT network of its own, right?

Any talk of other cities like Winnipeg, Quebec, Halifax maybe getting rapid transit?

Any cities I've missed?

Hamilton is not building anything, Kitchener-Waterloo is building the LRT right now.......

Mississauga will likely get an LRT on Hurontario before Hamilton does, or at least at the same time.

Kitchener-Waterloo LRT? Sweet!

Has the LRT in Hamilton been approved or is it just being talked about?
