Megaplex has those tables to hold snacks, too.

As far as the old showcase theater that was torn down, Taylorsville city has said that Texas Roadhouse plans to relocate to the space to there. I don't know the timeline, but I imagine we will see if go up within the next few years.

People are just getting fatter and lazier that we now need bigger seats and rotating tables?

I went once to this Chi Ku and was not impressed at all. I guess I wasn't surprised to see it not make it.

Cubbys, 5 Guys, and the others seem to be busy at lunch when I am in the area. That Texas Roadhouse has been there a while so that will be nice to get into a new space.

Good to hear Regal Luxury has made it to Utah. I go to the Regal here in Downtown often, because it's so conveniently close. Regal has a lot of luxury theatres in major downtown locations, which makes me wonder if Regal would be a part of the theatres being talked about for the CCH in Downtown Salt Lake. Here in L.A., Regal is the recently opened luxury theatre, adj. to the Los Angeles Staples Center and Marriott CCH. Great theatre. It's an important part of the entertainment revival here in Downtown L.A., and a great fit for a convention center, and upscale hotel.

No, that was actually mentioned because it was a nice amenity. If you haven't already tried the seats at this theater, go in with an open mind and check it out. You'll see it's actually pretty nice and you don't have to be overweight or lazy to enjoy it...

I applaud the entrepreneurs who are attempting to make the movie experience special again. With all that's available in our own residences now, it's often just as attractive and much easier to just stay home with the big screen and Netflix, etc.

I'm glad that this will be a mixed use area, I think engaging Main St would be more beneficial than engaging State. Main St is a much more pedestrian scale street and already has some engagement at the street level with the Central Point condos. Engagement of Main, State and along the S-line would be ideal, but State would be third on my list.

While this is a big disappointment compared to the Market Station vision, in perspective, it's a big improvement over the blight that had plagued this stretch for decades.

South Salt Lake Breaks Ground On New 45 Million Dollar Development

Dignataries participate in the groundbreaking of South Salt Lake City’s new downtown, which will feature a WinCo Foods
and two residential projects, in South Salt Lake on Monday, March 27, 2017. (Photo: Kristin Murphy, Deseret News)

SOUTH SALT LAKE — As a city that has struggled to forge an identity among the many small burghs surrounding the state's capital,
South Salt Lake is taking a decidedly aggressive approach to creating what civic leaders hope will be a bright future for their namesake hometown.

Representatives from South Salt Lake broke ground Monday on what will be the city’s new downtown near 2200 S. Main.

The first phase of the planned $45 million, mixed-use development will include retail and residential components as part of the initial implementation of the
South Salt Lake Downtown Master Plan to develop a 235-acre area in the heart of the city, explained Mayor Cherie Wood.

"It's taken us seven years to get to this day, and we're super excited about it," she said. "This is a great location, good visibility;
just under a half-million cars pass through this quadrant a day on State Street, I-15, I-80 and 21st South."

With the development located adjacent to the Sugar House streetcar S-Line, the project is the city's first effort to develop a neighborhood built around transit,
complete with the amenities necessary to provide a carless community for local residents and visitors, she said.

"We really wanted to (direct) everything (toward) the streetcar as it came through downtown," she said. "We wanted the streets to be walkable
and the downtown to be walkable, so that's where you can walk with your kids, go get groceries, get dinner or go hang out in the park."

Reams will definitely be a casualty. Fresh Market might be far enough away. I would be interested to see if they could land an AMC or Regal to compete against the Century on 33rd.

From that plan above, I don't see how they could fit a theater. Am I missing something obvious?

Yep, when we lived in Sugar House, we shopped at that Fresh Market but if we still lived there, we'd always go to Winco instead. As it is, we drive 7 miles to get to Winco once a month.

There is a ton of other empty (or blighted) land around it for a theater.

I would be for the SH liquor store moving to that parking lot. The one it has now is just ridiculous and unacceptable.

Edit: on second thought there probably needs to be one on the S-line just not at the current location.

As far as I read, this is only the first phase. Alot of land down there.

How moronic is it to replace a parking lot with another larger parking lot next to a transit station? Total fail!!

Though, the reality is that it isn't about being moronic or a genius. This is what they have to work with by way of commitments at this point. It all boils down to which developers/businesses are on board to get this thing going right now, not which urban planner they used to create a true TOD from the get go. Right now, this is what they have to begin with. I wish there were more, but it's pretty obvious that over time the allotted development is being planned for the long game, and will mature and become more densely packed with commercial and residential.
